DETAILED LESSON PLAN IN ELECTRICAL INSTALLATION AND MAINTENANCE 8

CURRICULUM CONTENT
Content Standards: The learner demonstrates an understanding of the concepts and
underlying principles in interpreting simple technical drawings and
plans in electrical installation and maintenance.
Performance Standards: The learner independently reads and interprets specifications of
simple technical drawings and plans.
Learning Competency: Read and interpret electrical signs, symbols and data
Learning Competency Code: TLE_IAEI7/8ID-0e-1

I. Objectives: At the end of the period, the students should be able to achieve the 85%
proficiency:
a. Identify the parts and functions of electric circuit;
b. Connect/assemble the actual electric circuit; and
c. Value the importance of each essential parts of electric circuit.
II. Subject Matter and References:
a. Topic: Electric Circuit
b. References:
 K to 12 Electrical Learning Module for TLE, Exploratory Course for grade 7 and
Grade 8; Pages 86-92.
 Electrical Layout and who Estimate (Second Edition 2000) Fajardo; Pages 12-
13.
c. Materials: Laptop, Hook-up wires, switches, electrical tape, 9v batteries, LEDs and
Resistors.

Teacher’s Activities Student’s Activities

A. Preliminary Activities
a. Prayer
b. Greetings
- Good morning class. - Good morning, Teacher Hermilyn.

c. Checking of attendance
- Ms. Rosales kindly check
who are absent today.
d. Setting of Classroom Standard

- What will you do if our class - We will listen carefully so that we can
is going on?
understand the lesson.
- What else? - We will participate in class discussion.

- Ok, that’s good to hear from

you.

e. Review
- Based on our previous topic, - Electricity has many sources and there are
what have you learned about many ways to generate electricity.
electricity?

B. Motivation
Show a video of a person doing a
simple circuit.

- What do you observe in the - I have observed that the man is connecting
video? some wires and the bulb lit.

- Would you like to know how - Yes sir!

did they connect it?

- What do you think is our - Our lesson for today is about Electric circuit.

Presentation of Lesson

1. Activity

make a complete circuit.

- I will give you 3 minutes to

do your task.

- Let me check if your

connection was correct.

- Very good. Most of you got

the right connection.

2. Analysis
- What is electric circuit? - A complete path were electricity flows.

- What are the parts of an - The battery, wires, switch, and the Led light.
electric circuit?

- Which part is the source? - The battery

- Which part is the conducting - The wire

path/conductor?

- Which part is the controlling - The switch

device?

- Which part is the load? - The LED light.

- What are the 4 essential - The source, conducting path, controlling

parts of an electric circuit? device, and the load.
3. Abstraction
- How do you define an - A circuit is composed of 4 essential parts.
electric circuit in your own
words? - A circuit is a path where the electricity will
flow from the source to the load.

- What is the function of the - The source provides the electric power.
source?

- What is the function of the - It brings the electricity towards the load.
conducting path?

- The function of the - Controls or cuts the flow of electricity.

controlling device.

- What is the function of the - The receiver of the electricity.

Load?

- How important are the parts - Each part of electric circuit is very important
of the electric circuit? because if one part is missing, the circuit will
not function properly.

 Source – provide the electrical

pressure in the circuit. It is either
alternating current or direct current.

Example: Battery (DC source) and AC

outlet (AC Source).

 Conducting path – bring the electricity

towards the load

Example: wires

 Controlling device- controls or cuts off

the flow of electricity, depending upon
the discretion of the operator.

Example: switches

 Load- the receiver of the electricity.

Converts the electricity to another form
of energy.

Example: Light bulb, Fluorescent,

refrigerator, electric iron, Television
etc.

D. Application
- Provided with the materials,
Let the students assemble
the four essential parts of
electric circuit with
Incandescent Bulb and AC
source.
- They have 5 minutes to do
the task.
- The performance will be
judge using the following
criteria.
