Filipino Values Relevance
(Positive)
1. Bayanihan The role that we play as a GMRC teacher has a major relevance, for we, are the one
who should promote cooperation, teamwork, and instill a sense of social responsibility
towards our learners.
2. Damayan Modeling this value to your learners can help them adapt or develop a deep sense of
empathy and care for others. Damayan or compassion encourages students to consider
the feelings and needs of others, and it helps foster a supportive and inclusive
classroom environment.
3. Close Family Ties As a GMRC teacher, your role extends beyond the classroom and into the lives of
your students. Family is a fundamental unit of society, and promoting the value of
close family ties can have a profound impact on the overall well-being and character
development of your students.
4. Optimism GMRC Teacher’s role is not only to impart knowledge but also to inspire and shape
the character of your students. Optimism is a valuable value to promote as it cultivates
a positive mindset, resilience, and a belief in the potential for growth and success. This
can help your students develop a hopeful outlook on life.
5. Hospitality Our role extends beyond imparting knowledge to creating a warm and inclusive
learning environment. Hospitality as a value promotes kindness, openness, and a
welcoming attitude towards others. By modeling hospitality, we can encourage your
students to treat others with respect, empathy, and generosity.
Filipino Values Relevance
(Negative)
1. Bahala na The “Bahala na" attitude may imply a lack of preparation and planning. As a GMRC
teacher, without proper preparation, students may not receive the necessary guidance
and support they need. This value can also be easily adapt by your learners and it can
be a possible reason for them to not do their best and be carefree every time because of
the “Bahala na” system.
2. Colonial Mentality Having a colonial mentality can undermine the value of local knowledge and
indigenous wisdom. It may dismiss or disregard traditional practices, values, and ways
of knowing that have been passed down through generations.
3. Crab Mentality Crab mentality can hinder personal growth and development. Instead of focusing on
their own progress and learning, students may become overly preoccupied with
comparing themselves to others.
4. Filipino Time Punctuality and time management are important values to uphold as they demonstrate
respect, responsibility, and professionalism. being consistently late can disrupt the
flow of the classroom and create a sense of disorganization. When a teacher is
consistently late, it can lead to wasted instructional time, decreased focus, and a lack
of productivity.
5. Pakikisama Pakikisama is generally viewed as a positive value, this can be negative when it
becomes excessive or misapplied. It can lead to groupthink, favoritism, a lack of
accountability, and a suppression of individuality. It is important for values teachers to
strike a balance, promoting a supportive and inclusive classroom environment while
also encouraging independent thinking, personal responsibility, and the development
of individual strengths and talents.
