CHAPTER 4 : WEEKEND TALK
A.4. Writing a Short Dialogue
Intructions :
In this activity, you will write a short dialogue between two
people discussing their weekends. The dialogue should cover
the following questions:
1. What do you usually do on the weekend?
2. When and where do you do these activities?
3. Who do you spend time with on the weekend?
4. Why do you enjoy your weekend?
5. How do you feel after a relaxing weekend?
Here's an example of how the dialogue could be structured:
Character A: Hey, what do you usually do on the
weekends?
Character B: Well, on Saturdays, I like to sleep in and have a
slow morning. Then, in the afternoon, I often
meet up with friends for a hike in the nearby
park. On Sundays, I usually do some
gardening in my backyard.
A: Sounds nice! Where do you usually go for your hikes, and
when do you go?
B: We go to Oakwood Park. It's a beautiful place with lots of
trails. We usually meet up around 10 AM.
A: Do you go alone or with someone?
B: I usually go with a group of friends. It's more fun that way.
A: That sounds like a great way to spend your weekends.
Why do you enjoy these activities?
06
CHAPTER 4 : WEEKEND TALK

fantastic way to unwind and recharge for the upcoming

CHAPTER 4 : WEEKEND TALK
B SPEAKING
B.1. Pictures to Speak of
B.2. List of Spoken Utterances
Intructions :
1. Find a partner, such as a friend, family member, or
language learning buddy, to practice the dialogue you've
written in A.4. Writing a Short Dialogue.
08
CHAPTER 4 : WEEKEND TALK
2. Assign one character to each person in the dialogue.
Character A and Character B, as written in your dialogue,
can be assigned to you and your partner.
3. Take turns playing your assigned characters. One person
speaks the lines of Character A, and the other responds as
Character B.
4. Pay attention to your intonation, pronunciation, and
fluency while speaking. Try to sound as natural as possible.
5. After completing the dialogue once, switch roles. The
person who played Character A now plays Character B, and
vice versa.
6. Repeat the dialogue a few times, alternating roles, until
you both feel comfortable with the conversation.
7. Don't be afraid to add your own personal experiences or
variations to make the conversation more engaging and
relatable.
Remember, the goal is to improve your speaking skills and
confidence when discussing weekends. Practicing with a
partner will make you more fluent in conversations and you will
feel like you are speaking in a real interaction.
09
CHAPTER 4 : WEEKEND TALK
B.3. Speaking Alone
Intructions :
1. Find a quiet space where you can speak comfortably
without any possible distractions.
2. Use the audio recorder on your phone or computer to
record yourself talking about your weekend. Begin by
describing your weekend activities, including what you did,
where you went, who you spent time with, why you enjoyed
it, and how you felt afterward.
3. While recording, focus on your pronunciation, intonation,
and fluency. Try to speak clearly and confidently, just as you
would in a real conversation.
4. When you've finished recording, save the audio file for
later evaluation.
5. Take some time to listen to the recording. Pay close
attention to the following aspects:
Pronunciation: Are there any words or phrases that you
struggled to pronounce correctly?
Intonation: Does your speech sound natural, with
appropriate rises and falls in pitch?
Fluency: Were there any pauses, hesitations, or stumbles in
your speech?
10
CHAPTER 4 : WEEKEND TALK
6. Make notes on areas where you think you can improve.
Consider practicing specific words or phrases that were
challenging for you.

evaluating your progress over time. As you continue to
practice, you should notice improvement in your spoken
English skills.
