Listening script
A. / B. / C.
Celia and Michelle are talking about their last school trip.
Celia: Hey, Michelle. Look what I have here!
Michelle: Photos of our last school trip. What an unforgettable adventure! Can we go back?
Celia: I don’t think so. Maybe in ten years’ time! New York isn’t around the corner and trips are very expensive.
Michelle: I know but I loved going there. It was such a great city to visit. I loved going to Central Park, the Empire State Building and,
of course, the Statue of Liberty. It was my favourite place to visit. We learned a lot about history and culture. What about you,
Celia? What was your favourite?
Celia: I preferred going to Times Square and watching Aladdin on Broadway. It was the first time I watched a musical and I loved that
theatre room.
Michelle: Did you like walking along the streets around Fifth Avenue and going to Chinatown, too?
Celia: Yes, of course I did. Chinatown is such a magic place... with all those street markets and traditional shops.
Michelle: You’re right. Do you remember Angelina Bakery?
Celia: Oh, yes, I do. We ate delicious cakes and bagels there! They say it’s the best bakery in New York.
Michelle: We didn’t have time to go to Brooklyn Bridge and to a New York Knicks basketball match in Madison Square Garden… so…
We need to go back!
Celia: And to Grand Central Station, the famous train station filled with history. I love learning about American culture. Let’s go back
soon, pleeeeease!

Last year, my classmates and I visited Washington D.C., the capital of the USA. It’s a big, beautiful city. We travelled
by plane and by bus. Our history and English teachers were with us. We stayed there for seven
days (from Saturday to Friday) and we had a lot of fun together!
We arrived at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport at 8 a.m. and there was a tour
5 guide waiting to take us to the hotel by bus. On that day, we visited the White House and the
National Museum of Natural History. White House
On Monday, we walked along the National Mall, a very large area with parks, memorials
and museums. We visited the Lincoln Memorial and the Washington Monument, a landmark
that honours1 the first President of the USA, George Washington. It is amazing! And what a
10 great view over the city! On the next days, we visited the U.S. Capitol and the Library of
Lincoln Memorial
Congress. Then, we stopped at the National Zoo and Conservation Biology Institute for a very
interesting tour and after that, we decided to go to Washington National Cathedral, a historical
place, too. We learned a lot about the past.
We also enjoyed the wonderful views over the Potomac River (at night) from the rooftop
15 terrace2 of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. We also watched a beautiful Potomac River
play there.
We returned home on Friday, after visiting one of the best restaurants in Washington,
Ben's Chili Bowl. We tried the half-smoke (a special hot dog), one of the most famous dishes in
Washington, but I didn’t like it. It was too spicy3 for me. My favourite food was the traditional
20 American hot dog. half-smoke
