2- Good Citizenship
John Dexther N. Orleans
AB- PHILOSOPHY 1-3
Prof. Rudolf Dela Cruz
Task 1:
Answer the following questions:
1. What do you observe in the lesson Good Citizenship Values? Why do
you say so?
The lesson that was tackled last meeting provides a framework
for individuals to act as responsible, engaged, and compassionate
members of their communities, contributing positively to the
collective well-being of society.
3. How do you show your faith in the Almighty God? According to the discussion
of Maka-Diyos in this module, especially in our current situation?
In these times of uncertainty and turmoil, I should demonstrate
faithfulness to Almighty God through thick and thin. With this, it can be
a profound and meaningful act of devotion. We should all remember that
faithfulness is not a fleeting emotion or a one-time act; it is a lifelong
journey of devotion, trust, and obedience. By consistently demonstrating
these qualities, you express your unwavering commitment to Almighty
God, even in the face of adversity.
4. In our current situation, how can you show your respect for life?
In our current situation, I can show my respect for life by: cherishing my
own life; taking care of my physical and mental health by eating nutritious
foods, exercising regularly, getting enough sleep and managing stress.
Valuing the lives of others; treat all people with kindness, compassion, and
empathy; respect their differences, listen to their perspectives, and avoid
judgements. Promoting peace and conflict resolution, be and advocate for
nonviolent approaches to resolving conflicts and disputes, support
initiatives that foster dialogue, understanding, and peaceful coexistence.
Speaking up against injustice and oppression, raising my voice against
discrimination, violence, and human rights violations. Support movements
that promote equality, justice, and the protection of vulnerable
populations.
5. Have you ever been in love? Do you feel you are loved?
I experienced being in love and feel that I’m loved, as a person that grew
from a family that doesn’t communicate their feelings with each other, I
can immediately recognize or feel certain act of love, kindness, etc. that are
being expressed to me.
7. The Golden Rule says “Do unto others what you want others do unto you”.
What do you think is the standard of love if we consider this rule?
When we apply love to the Golden Rule, it suggests that we should treat
others with the same love, respect, and care that we would want to receive
from them. This means being kind, compassionate, and understanding. It
also means being supportive, encouraging, and forgiving.
9. In your own ways, how can you contribute in the protection of the
environment from its threats?
As an individual, I can make significant impact on protecting the
environment by adopting eco-friendly practices and advocating for
sustainable policies. These are some of my ways that at least I can
contribute: reducing my consumption, conserving resources,
choosing sustainable transportation, supporting sustainable
businesses, educating and engage others about the protection of the
environment, making informed decisions, protecting natural
habitats, and be a mindful consumer.
Task 2:
Instructions:
1. Cite personal incidents / moments in your life that you feel you
have become:
a. Maka-Diyos
I felt that I became maka-Diyos, when I was in my lowest stage of
life; problems in family are occurring financial, emotional,
problems in education, and more. I attended many church masses,
processions, festivals of saints, and attended Mother Mary’s
procession in Quezon City, with all that events I only prayed for the
betterment of my family and my studies. Eventually, my prayers
have been answered, my dad got called from the company offering
work for the meantime, taking away the burden of our family from
financial problem. With all these that had happened, I expressed
my gratitude to the Almighty God by visiting each and every church
that I prayed unto and expressed my gratitude by giving flowers or
praying for appreciation.
b. Makatao
I felt that I became makatao, when I finally managed to make and create some
friends in school. I always put in mind the quote that goes “do unto others what
you want others do unto you” I showed my enthusiasm by talking to them,
relating myself to them, and listening to their rants as a part of process of
becoming friends with them. With this I felt and showed the essence of
socializing, and the essence of being makatao.
c. Makakalikasan
I felt that I became Makakalikasan, when I tend to be practical on choosing the
right thing that benefits the environment: using utensils that isn’t plastic, using
metal/glass straws, instead of buying water bottles I use my personal water
tumbler, support movements that raise awareness on environmental issues such
as deforestation, land mining, and many more.
d. Makabansa/makabayan
I felt that I became makabansa/Makabayan, when I became more aware of
political injustices, such as Leila De Lima’s detention without any valid reasons,
injustices, and discrimination among LGBTQIA++, Dictatorships, Extra Judicial
Killings, and corruptions. Along with learning about these kinds of topics, it gave
me a wide eye opening on this matter. It shows the dark truth of the government
here in the country and shows that we as a nation should be part of many
movements that seeks to find answer and solution on the matter that concerns
the country and its people.
2. Explain the details. What have you learned and realized out from that
experience?
Being a citizen, it takes a lot of effort and dedication to show responsibility and
to contribute positively to the community and society as a whole. However, these
lifelong journeys will grant each and everyone a lifelong lessons that will help and
be the factor of one’s individual growth or even as community’s development.
Task 3:
Instructions:
1. Identify at least five (5) strengths of Filipino character that you think you
possess. Why do you say so?
The five (5) strengths of Filipino character that I think that I possess first
is Bayanihan, this is a Filipino spirit of communal unity and cooperation.
As a member of youth organization of our village, I collaborate and support
my fellow members in our organization to be as one and be a help to
everyone. Second is Pakikisama, it’s a Filipino value that emphasizes the
importance of social harmony, respect, and understanding. As a friend,
blockmate, son, I encompass this kind of attitude in order to create an
environment that provides a peaceful social life. Third is Hospitality it’s a
cultural practice that refers to the warm and welcoming nature of the
Filipinos. As some who is open for new acquaintances, and friendships, I
demonstrate this value as making friends and being in harmony with other
people and treating them with utmost respect and generosity will deepen
existing relationships and create space for new one to flourish. Fourth is
Adaptability, it’s a Filipino trait to be able to adjust to new situations and
environments, and not afraid to change. As a person who tends to please
everyone in a good way, I tend to create adjustments to not just me to fit
in, but also show respect to other people. Last is Creativity, Filipinos are
creative people with a rich artistic heritage. As an individual who really
puts effort into creating graphic design I possess this kind of strength, that
is usually seen or really evident in many Filipino artists who have achieved
international recognition.
2. Identify at least five (5) weaknesses of Filipino character that you think you
possess. What are the steps do you take to change these weaknesses into
strength?
The five (5) weaknesses of Filipino character that I think I possess are:
Hiya or Extreme Shyness, I tend to become shy whenever I get to meet
new people, this may negatively affect a lot of opportunities that I may
encounter in the near future due to shyness. In order for me to overcome
this weakness, I should practice self-confidence exercises, challenge
myself to step out on my comfort zone, and engage in activities that
boost my self-esteem. Second is Bahala na or Leave it to fate, I tend
to leave my problems in God’s direction and sometimes it’s not a good
thing to do, it suggest a lack of proactive problem-solving and reliance
on chance. To overcome this weakness, I should develop a sense of
agency and take ownership of my actions and decisions. Third is
Overdependence on others, I seldomly depend on other’s leadership
on certain or let someone do the house chores. This may lead to
helpessness and a lack of self-reliance. To overcome this weakness that
I have, I should cultivate independence, learn essential life skills, and
develop strong sense of personal responsibility. Fourth is Ningas
Cogon, it refers to enthusiasm and motivation that quickly fizzles out.
I seldomly demonstrate this kind of attitude in workplace, it’s because
I get burned out easily and this affects my working habit academically.
To overcome this weakness, I should break down my goals into smaller,
manageable steps, and set realistic deadlines. Lastly is Overly
Emotional, it is the burst of emotions that some Filipino has, I tend to
be overly emotional when I get picked on, or get called out on my
behavior. To overcome this weakness, I should take a look at the impact
of my emotions, aim for regulation, and identify what I’m feeling.
