BEGINNINGS
ACADEMIC YEAR : 2023 - 2024

CREATED BY : MARIA YSABELLA B. ROSARIO

My Chosen Mathematician

THERE IS ONE PARTICULAR

MATHEMATICIAN I AM FASCINATED
BY. I READ HIS LIFE AND WORKS
RECENTLY, WHICH CAPTIVATED ME
SO MUCH. HE IS PAUL ERDÖS. HE
WAS REGARDED BY FELLOW
MATHEMATICIANS AS THE MOST
BRILLIANT, IF ECCENTRIC, MIND IN
HIS FIELD. BECAUSE HE HAD NO
INTEREST IN ANYTHING BUT
NUMBERS, HIS NAME WAS NOT WELL
KNOWN OUTSIDE THE
MATHEMATICAL FIELD. HE WROTE
NO BEST-SELLING BOOKS AND
SHOWED A STOIC DISREGARD FOR
WORLDLY SUCCESS AND PERSONAL
COMFORT. THE MONEY HE MADE
FROM PRIZES HE GAVE AWAY TO
FELLOW MATHEMATICIANS, WHOM
HE CONSIDERED TO BE NEEDIER
THAN HIMSELF, "PROPERTY IS A
NUISANCE," WAS HIS SUCCINCT
EVALUATION.

Paul Erdös at Purdue. (n.d.-b).

Paul Erdős. (n.d.-b). https://www.sfu.ca/~vjungic/RamseyNotes/sec_Erdos.html

A LEGENDARY MATHEMATICAL
GENIUS, PAUL ERDŐS WAS
UNQUESTIONABLY THE MOST
PROLIFIC AND ECCENTRIC MIND
OF HIS GENERATION. HE HAS TO
HIS NAME MORE PAPERS AND
MATHEMATICAL CONJECTURES
THAN ANY OTHER CONTEMPORARY
OF THE 20TH CENTURY

DIFFERENCES AND SIMILIARITIES
Paul Erdös acknowledged God, whom he used to
address as the Supreme Fascist, the Number-One
Guy Up There (an aphorism, that is). He was a
genius who never bragged about his wit but chose
to work with other mathematicians, he spent all
his life proving principles. As a young learner, I
share similarities with him. I grew up in a God-
fearing home, where my parents and siblings put
God above all else. I detest cocky characters and
prefer to collaborate with others to work on a
task.
Erdos lived a simple lifestyle. As a matter of fact,
he won prizes yet only kept a small portion of his
winnings to himself; the rest went to worthy
causes. As a blossoming being, I hate how people's
minds are corrupted by fortune, not thinking of
the needy who are barely surviving each day. I
am no philanthropist, but sincerely, it's my belief
that when we have a surplus, we should consider
lending our hands to the unprivileged.
Working too many hours in a day is a habit that
may have a negative impact on our health. Paul
Erdös was said to work up to 20 hours a day,
which I see as unhealthy and unnecessary. His
extreme passion and pursuit to develop principles
have resulted in him not paying attention to
other important aspects of life. He never got
married or had children. I don't think I will
neglect my family by spending all my time on a
task. Quality of life for me means maintaining
balance among the different aspects of my life. I'll
only live once; hence, I must make the most of it.
Some of Paul Erdös's Notable Contributions to
Mathematics
Number Theory; a
Combinatorics including Graph Theory; the study branch of pure

RamseyNotes/sec_Erdos.html
It was a dream come true when I made it to Pisay. As
a freshman living the dream while trying to shape her
own future , I must do my best by taking this
opportunity seriously. Just like the brilliant
mathematician Paul Erdös, I will ponder over
challenges until I figure them out. I must devise
strategies to understand unfamiliar topics so that I can
become self- reliant. In situations where it's difficult
for me to grasp, I will opt to collaborate with my fellow
students during our spare time. Pisay is a place where
great minds are built. For this reason, it's
indispensable to prepare myself to be competitive and
equipped at all times.
