21 Let √2 + 3 be as rational number 2

√2 + 3 = a/b (where a and b are coprime)

𝑎−3𝑏
√2 = a/b -3 = 𝑏

At RHS, a, b, and 3 are integers, hence RHS is rational.

But this is a contradiction, which has arisen due to the incorrect assumption as √5 is
a rational number.

Therefore, √2 + 3 is irrational.

Sol. We have ABCD, a parallelogram which circumscribes a

circle (i.e., its sides touch the circle) with centre D.
Since tangents to a circle from an external point are equal
in length
∴ AP = AS
BP = BQ
CR = CQ
DR = DS

Adding, we get
(AP + BP) + (CR + DR) = (AS + DS) + (BQ + CQ)
⇒ AB + CD = AD + BC
But AB = CD [opposite sides of ABCD]
and BC = AD
∴ AB + CD = AD + BC ⇒ 2 AB = 2 BC
⇒ AB = BC
Similarly AB = DA and DA = CD
Thus, AB = BC = CD = AD
Hence ABCD is a rhombus.

25 Ans. Area of square – area of circle 2

14 X 14 – ( 22 x 7 x 7)/7 = 196 – 154 = 42 sq cm
OR
Ans. Area of segment = Area of sector – Area of triangle
Area of sector = (22 x 14 x 14 )/ 28 = 154 sq cm
Area of triangle = (14 x 14)/2 = 98 sq cm
Area of segment = 154 – 98 = 56 sq cm

26 To find the number of students in each group, you need to find the (HCF) of the given 3
numbers (60, 84, and 108). The HCF will be the maximum number of students you can
have in each group.
60 = 22.3.5
84 = 22.3.7
108 = 22.33
HCF(60,84,108) = 12

Number of groups in Algebra = 60/12 = 5

Number of groups in Calculus = 84/12 = 7
Number of groups in Trigonometry = 108/12 = 9

BC2 = (-5 -3)2 + ( -4 + 4)2 = 8 units

(b) A ( -5, 4) , C = (3, -4) and D = (-1,0)

Using section formula

-m -n = -5n + 3m therefore -4m = -4n so, m/n = 1/1

therefore y = 0

DB2 = (-1 +5)2 + (0 +4)2 = 32, so DB = 4√2 units
