A. BRIEF ABOUT MUSI

The Musi River is a tributary of Krishna River in the Deccan Plateau region
of Telangana state, it flows through a major portion of Hyderabad. Himayat Sagar and Osman
Sagar are the two reservoirs built on the upstream of Esa & Musi which act as source of water supply
for Hyderabad city for several years. The length of Musi River (including Musa tributary/Esa
Tributary) passing from Osman Sagar / Himayat Sagar to ORR (East) is 54km.
B. BACKGROUND
Government of Telangana is contemplating to restore/ beautify the existing bridges and also
to build few additional bridges on musi river. HRDCL, a government of Telangana Corporation would
like the architecture students and architectural consultants to involve in developing the preliminary
architectural concepts for the bridges, so that a unique façade and gateway can be incorporated in
all the bridges across Musi.
C. OBJECTIVES
These Bridges are expected to achieve the following objectives.

► Improve the aesthetics of existing bridges on Musi.
► To promote the rich Telangana & Hyderabad heritage and culture
► Improve the mobility of the residents across the rivers.
► Improve the traffic distribution across various roads.
► Improve traffic operations in major corridors.
► Reduce the travel distances for commuters and thereby Vehicle Operation Costs.
► Economic growth: help in development of commercial establishments and value of properties.
► Reduction of carbon emission levels and journey time on main roads playing vital role during
peak hours by avoiding jams.
► To encourage tourism

E. REQUEST FOR PROPOSAL:

HRDCL propose to conduct a “Design competition” by inviting proposal from (i)Architects
(ii)Students of Architecture (iii) Any other Firm/Expert for the elevation, Façade and gateway of
these bridges.
F. GENERAL DESIGN PRINCIPLES:

The general design principle to be followed by the participants is:
 Overall design theme may represent the diversity of Telangana & Hyderabad heritage and
reflect the surrounding structures legacy along Musi river.
 Minimum design elements to be addressed (but not limited to) are Gazebo, lighting, colors;
material used (cladding) and other architectural features.
 Both entrance and exit gate ways to be designed.
 Unique material (which is available in state/ country) can be proposed for construction,
Cladding etc.
 Design brief to be submitted, which should briefly explain about the design intent, theme
adopted and the overall concept.
 Minimum 3 views to be generated for each concept i.e. Side view, Front View and Top view.
 Typical cross section of the bridge - Length: - ≈ 200m, Pier Height: - ≈ 10m from Bed level,
Pier to Pier distance: - ≈ 20m.

 Typical cross section of the bridge- Width: - ≈ 23 to 25m, i.e. Carriage way: ≈ 14mts, Central
Median: ≈ 2.0m, Footpath on either side: ≈ 1.5m, Cycle track on either sides: ≈ 2.0m.
G. ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENT:
 All the Student from architectural colleges and universities are eligible and encouraged to
participate.
 All the architectural consultants (both individual & firm) are eligible and encouraged to
participate.
 All the faculty member of architectural colleges/ universities are eligible and encouraged to
participate.
 Any other subject expert/Firm.
H. SCHEDULE:
1. Competition schedule
i. Announcement: 30-09-2021
ii. Pre- participation queries will be received: up to 5-9-2021
iii. Reply to the queries and Pre-Competition meeting: 08-10-2021 (Location
@HRDCL, Time:3.00pm)
iv. Date of Submission : 25-10-2021,3:00 PM
v. Presentation of shortlisted proposals: 29-10-2021
vi. Announcement of Results: 2-11-2021
The prospective participants can send their queries by email to [email protected] on or
before 5-10-2021.
2. Submission
 Each participant shall submit only one proposal.
 Proposal must be submitted (both hard and soft copy) according to the date and time
specified below.

ii. Neatly rendered 3D views, Elevation, Façade, Gateways &
Sections
iii. Presentation with max of 10 slides of the concept.
All the proposals submitted on or before the due date & time is eligible in the competition.
3. Cost of Proposal
No cost for preparation and submission of proposal will be paid by HRDCL to the participants

4. Selection/Reward
 Assessment & finalization will be made by a committee appointed by the MD, HRDCL.
 Consolation prizes will also be announced in a view to encourage new & budding talent and
young architects.
 Participants must submit hard & soft copy of the drawings only One Proposal per
participant
 Selected drawings will be the property of the HRDCL and can be utilized by HRDCL.
The best three proposals as decided by the committee will be declared winners and they will be award prizes
as follows
1. First prize: 2,00,000 INR
2. Second prize: 1,00,000 INR
3. Third prize: 50,000 INR
4. 3 Consolation prizes: 20,000 INR
5. A certificate of appreciation for all shortlisted entries.
