ch1 Lecture 2 Sag in Overhead Transmission Line and Its Calculation

The document discusses four types of transmission line towers: suspension, tension, angle, and end towers. It also covers the calculation of sag in overhead transmission lines, including the factors of line voltage, spacing between lines, and formulas for sag when conductor supports are at equal or unequal levels.

Sag Calculation
• A longer span means a smaller number of towers but the towers are
taller more costly.
• Horizontal configuration means a lesser tower.
• Vertical configuration means a taller tower.

Case1: When the conductor supports are at equal level.

L = Horizontal distance between the towers (Span)

W = Weight per unit length of conductor

T = Tension in the conductor

Case2: When the conductor supports are at unequal level.

L = Horizontal distance between the towers (Span)

H = Difference in level between the two supports

T = Tension in the conductor

X1 = Horizontal distance of point O from support A

X2 = Horizontal distance of point O from support B

W = Weight per unit length of conductor
