Principles and Practices of Management (MGT 420) is the subject that teaches us about planning,
organising, and how to control an organisation. Throughout this course, I learned about various
management principles applicable to companies and organisations, including leadership, employee
management, and handling human behaviour within an organisational context. As students, all the topics
we have studied will be helpful in the future if we are working with the company.
The knowledge I have gained from this subject is how to manage the planning, organising, leading, and
controlling to achieve an organisation's goals, vision, and mission. Additionally, I have developed an
appreciation for ethical behaviour within the workplace, which entails adhering to the rules and
regulations established by an organisation. Furthermore, in the human resource management chapter, I
learned about organisational processes in staffing functions involving selecting, placing, training,
developing, rewarding, and appraising. Another important concept I learned is the distinction between
efficiency and effectiveness. Efficiency is about what I have to improve in doing things the right way
in the best possible manner. In contrast, effectiveness is about doing the right things to align with the
objectives and goals of an organisation.
It is essential to always make a plan in an organisation, as it will help the managers in the decision-
making process to make sure all the work is done efficiently and smoothly without any conflicts
occurring during the process. More than that, I can also learn about human management resources,
which helps me understand more about labour relations and the benefits workers should get from their
organisations while working with them. This newfound knowledge will prove invaluable when applying
these principles in my future professional endeavours.
The skills that I acquired from this subject were management skills. These skills can assist me in almost
everything that allows me to manage others effectively, such as conceptual skills, human skills, and
technical skills, where conceptual skills of abstract thinking and idea formulation assist in the
development of a concept, the analysis of challenges, and the development of creative solutions.
Second, managers must possess human skills to interact with colleagues and subordinates successfully
and efficiently. It also assists professional management in maximising human potential for
organisational profit and increasing productivity.
I will use management skills in the future for the best because every company needs those skills.
Management skills are essential for so many reasons. One of the reasons is that it will put you in a
position to act as an effective leader and problem solver in so many situations. Moreover, these skills
will give you an impact on your job performance and opportunities.
Throughout the semester, I have reaped numerous benefits from this subject, one notable example being
critical decision-making. Learning the intricacies of effective leadership has highlighted the need for
quick thinking and action when solving organisational problems. The primary purpose of decision-
making is to ensure that the organisation makes the correct decision-making to influence others. When
we have excellent solving thinking problems, it will not only make the company do better but also help
the company to become stronger and produce better outcomes that will benefit their employees. Another
benefit I acquired is the key management that will allow me to be a valuable asset in the organisation I
work for. This will allow me to build a skill to respond to the current development in the organisation
itself.
What I like the best about this subject is that it teaches me how the organisation works well with the
standard set up and is followed by the management or the employees. Last but not least, I also like the
communication skills I have learned in this subject. Communication can bring many meanings
regarding how someone delivers it to others. However, we deliver it as very clear and straightforward.
People tend to express it differently and always need to understand the original messages that they
supposedly understand in the first place. In the workplace, managers, and management always
communicate with their employees about accomplishing the organisational goals. This is the reason
why we should have good communication skills.
I suggest improving the e-book for this subject. Specific keywords and terminology were challenging
for me, which may also be true for other students. Additionally, since the subject is more theoretical,
incorporating more graphical illustrations within the study materials could help engage students and
maintain their focus, ensuring they stay energised with the content.
