1.1 INTRODUCTION -
Blumea - Genus is tropical Australasian and African herbs or shrubs. simple alternative
leaves and discoid purple or yellow flower heads. 1 Genus Blumea is found in the tropical and
subtropical zones of Asia, especially the Indian Subcontinent and Southeast Asia. A few
species are found in Australia and fewer in Africa .Many species of genus Blumea are used in
traditional Chinese medicine. Other uses include as decorative dry plants.2,3
Blumea malcolmii Hook.F. is an accepted name. The record derives from TICA which
reports it as an accepted name of this species. 4 Malcolm's Blumea is a short herb with strongly
aromatic tap roots, branched stems, woolly with silky white hairs. Synonym of this plant is
Blumea lanuginosa Law ex Cooke Pluchea malcolmii C.B.Clarke. Most of chinese medicines
treat different types of diseases.5
Blumea malcolmi Hook. F. is the name of a plant characterised by different herbal
sources.In current medication, Ayurveda, and other nearby practices or society medication. It
has the accompanying equivalent words: Pluchea malcolmii C.B. Clarke. Recently, Blumea
malcolmii use for Malachite Green dye Erythrina crista-galli for petroleum and Chlorella
were used for photodegradation processes. 6 Blumea MalcolmiiHook F. commonly called as
”panjurt” qualitative analysis by microscopic and phytochemical analysis. In Leave extract of
plant saponins , glycoside, volatile oil, alkaloids, flavonoids, tannins present hence plants is
mostly useful for wound healing property. 7
● The herb has a pleasant camphoraceous smell it was suggested by divisional forest
officer of bngalum, Mr. Hodgson, that might on distillation yield oil.Preliminary
experiment performed by Mr. Puran singh. 16
● The plant was recollected, a distilled oil chemical examination completed in 1921. It
was found that the oil contains two main ketone d-carvatanacetone and L-
tetrahydrocarvone.17
