 SOCIAL WORK PRACTICE IN AGENCY SETTING

 This practice begins with a purpose which includes your dedication and
commitment towards that endeavor or goal
 It is a deep understanding and appreciation that humans are social being,
these social creatures need guidance and protection from any form of
abused to the people around them including the helping institutions who
was mandated to extend public service
 it is also considered interconnected and interdependence between people
and his environment because this two has a lot to do in order to apply
knowledge and guidance of how a social worker will do to address possible
problem or crisis that may arise.

 TWO TYPE OF SW PRACTICE

 DIRECT PRACTICE – work directly to an individual, family or group as case


worker or case manager
- This practice is typically done at an agency, nonprofit
/government setting
Which involves in many different areas including but not
limited to working in Social Protection Services

 INDIRECT PRACTICE - this practice is generally the soc worker is involved in


the activities that consist with facilitating change through program and
policies
- This type of practice aimed to help prevent problems from
developing in which the social worker advocate through
agency administrators, legislators which aim is to effect
change.
 PRINCIPLES AND CONSIDERATIONS

 Since our primary mission is to enhance human well -being and help meet
the basic needs human needs of all people with particular attention to the
needs and empowerment of people who are vulnerable, oppressed and
living in poverty.

A Social Workers employed with social service agencies can have a range job
functions, depending on the possible job titles but not limited as child
advocate, case manager, program coordinator/director

JOB FUNCTIONS IN A SOCIAL SERVICE AGENCY INCLUDES


 Intervening with at risk families
 Analyzation of individuals or family’s social support networks
 Assessment of clients physical and emotional functioning including
financial stability and safety
 Assisting individuals and families in the development of Management of
coping skills
 Assisting clients resolving personal issues
 Building positive client relationships
 Collaborating with treatment teams
 Conducting intake interviews and assessment
 Conduct home visitation
 Conduct of psychosocial assessment to clients
 Assessment of clients (minor) victims of abuse and neglect
 Coordination out of home placement and adoptions
 Implement intervention, treatment and discharge plans
 Education and linkages of client to local community resources
 Referral to stakeholders and faith based
 Providing case management services
 ETHICAL CONSIDERATIONS AND CHALLENGES

 Because of the nature of what social workers do, ethical considerations are
utmost importance, since we are mandated to work with individuals and
families who are experiencing challenges including mental, physical and
emotional suffering.
 We should always consider the vulnerability of our client is highly
confidential and in giving the counselling session as one of our major tools
as a social worker we are mandated to follow our ethical code and deliver
this with care that our client needs without overstepping to their
boundaries that may cause harm.
DILEMMAS THAT A SOCIAL WORKER MIGHT FACE
 Client refuses care
 Incarcerated clients
 Physical contact and intimate relationships with a client
 Sexual relationship with colleagues
 Political involvement and social unrest
 Telehealth, technology and client privacy
