Not that long ago, a typical factory floor included equipment from a variety of manufacturers, each
performing a specific task in the production process, and each with different protocols for doing so.
Multiple technicians, with expertise in each protocol, were needed to operate the machines. Since
the process lacked interoperability, a specialized communication bridge, capable of interpreting and
