Lesson Plan: Forms of Business Organization

Unit Topic: Forms of Business Organization

Instructional Model: 5E Instructional Model

Lesson Duration: 45-52 minutes

Lesson Objectives:

 Students will be able to define and differentiate between various forms of business organization (sole
proprietorship, partnership, corporation).
 Students will understand the advantages and disadvantages of each form of business organization.
 Students will be able to analyze real-world examples of businesses and determine their form of
organization.
 Students will evaluate which form of business organization is most suitable for a given scenario.

Key Vocabulary:

1. Sole Proprietorship

6. Ownership
7. Profits
8. Dividends

Materials:

 Whiteboard/Chart paper and markers


 Computer/Projector (optional)

Procedure:

Engage (5-7 minutes):

1. Do Now: Write the following question on the board: "What do you think are the advantages and
disadvantages of starting your own business?" Give students a few minutes to write their responses
individually.
2. After a few minutes, ask students to share their responses with a partner.
3. Select a few student pairs to share their responses with the class.
4. Facilitate a brief class discussion to highlight the different perspectives on advantages and
disadvantages of starting a business.

Explore (10-12 minutes):

1. Introduce the key vocabulary terms related to forms of business organization.

3. Divide the class into small groups.
4. Distribute the "Examples of Real-World Businesses" handout.
5. In their groups, students will analyze the given examples and determine the form of business
organization for each one.
6. Encourage students to discuss and justify their choices within their groups.
7. Circulate the classroom to provide support and clarification as needed.

Explain (10-12 minutes):

1. Bring the class back together and review the correct answers for the examples discussed.
2. Display the "Forms of Business Organization Chart" on the board or using a projector.
3. Guide students through a discussion of the advantages and disadvantages of each form of business
organization, referring to the chart as a visual aid.
