BIOLOGIA Y GEOLOGIA UNIDAD 4.

VERTEBRATES
Fish: Fish have cold blood.
CHARACTERISTICS:

1.Have long bodies that help them to move in the water.

2.They have fins. Variete depending of the specie.

VITAL FUNCTIONS:

1.1.Interaction: -They have a system called Lateral line. -Some have a swim bladder.

1.2.Nutrition: -Breath thorugh gills. -Thay are carnivores and some herbivores.

1.3.Reproduction: -They reproduce sexually. -They are oviparous.

CLASSIFICATION OF FISH:

 Cartilaginous fish: -Sharks are included in this group. -Can have cartilage
tissue. -Breathe through gills. -Don´t have a swim bladder. -Repdroduce
seaxually by internal fertilisation. -Are oviparous.
 Bony fish: -Carp and Slamon are included in this group. -Have a skeleton made
of bony tissue. -Have a terminal mouth. -Covered with scales. -Have a swim
bladder. -Reproduce sexually by external fertilisation. -Are oviparous.

Amphibians: Amphibians have warm blood. They libe usaully in water.


CHARACTERISTICS:

2. Skin is soft and moist.

3. They have theth.

4. Most have tail.

5. Some have 4 limbs, some doesn´t have limbs.

VITAL FUNCTIONS:

2.1.Reproduction: -Amphibains reproduce seaxually by external fertilisation. -Are


oviparous.

2.2.Nutrition: -Adults breathe throught lungs and Larvae throught gills. -Are carnivores,
somo herbivores.

2.3.Interaction: Some have vocal cords.

CLASSIFICATION OF AMPHIBIANS:

 Anuran order: -Frogs are included in this group. -Don´t have tail when they become
adults. -Have vocal cords.
 Urodela: -Salamander is included in this group. -Adults have long bodies. -Larvae and
adults have theeth in their jaws.
Reptiles: Reptiles are cold bllod. Most are terrestial.

CHARACTERISTICS:

3. They are covered with scales.

4.Have a head, neck, torso and a tail.

5.Have theeth.

VITAL FUNCTIONS:

3.1.Reprdoduction: -Perfom sexual reproduction by internal fetilisation.

3.2.Nutrition: -Use lungs to breathe. -Are carnivores, some herbivores.

3.3.Interaction: -Have a tongue.

CLASSIFICATION OF REPTILES:

 Cryptodira: -Turtles are included in this group. -Have a Shell. -Have beaks.
 Ophidia: -Snakes are included in this group. -Don´t have limbs. -Shed their skin. -All
are carnivores.
 Lizards: -Iguanas are included in this group. -Have five toes. -Some change their
skin. -Shed their skin.
 Crocodilia: -Cocodirles are included in this group. -Bodies are covered in hard
scales. -Are carnivores.

Birds: Birds have warm blood.


CHARACTERISTICS:

4. Adapted for flying.

5. The anterior limbs are wins.

6.Body covered with feathers.

7. Hollow bones.

8. Have beaks, don´t have teeths.

VITAL FUNCTIONS:

4.1.Nutrition: -Breathe thorught lungs. -Have air sacs. -Some are carnivores other
herbivores.

4.2.Interaction: -Have well-developed eyes. -Some emit sounds to communicate with


other members.

4.3.Reproduction: -Birds reproduce seaxually thorugh internal fertilisation. Parents


incubate the eggs. Are oviparous.
CLASSIFICATION OF BIRDS:

 Eagle: Strong, curved beaks.


 Macaw: Hard, thick beaks.
 Pelican: Long beaks.
 Curlew: Long, curved beaks.

Mammals: Mammals have warm blood.


CHARACTERISTICS:

5. Female have mammary glands.

6. Most are covered in fun.

7. All limbs have a similar structure.

8. Have lips.

VITAL FUNCTIONS:

5.1.Nutrition: Mammals breath through lungs.

5.2.Interaction: Have a complex behaviour.

5.3.Reproduction: Reproduce sexually thorugh internal fertilisation.

CLASSIFICATION OF MAMMALS:

Monotremes: -Echidna is included in this group. -Are oviparous. -Feed´s there


mother´s milk. -Primitive mammary glands.
Marsupials: -Kanguroos are included in this group. -Are viviparous.
Placental: -All the rest of the mammals. -Are viviparous. -Babies recibe food
throught the placenta.

Humans: Humans are primates.


CHARACTERISTICS:

6.Brains are higly developed.

7.Are bipedal. With oposable thumbs.
