Monarch Separators is pleased to submit this consultation report for the scope of supply
nominated in the commercial consultation proposal submitted to our customer.
This report was developed by Monarch representative at site, and reviewed and approved by
customer ENPPI.
Summary of Findings:
1. Based of the testing for free oil, the CPI’s are operating well within the performance
guarantee based on free oil removal. All testing samples showed less than 50 ppm of
free oil in the samples. The projects performance guarantee is to provide less than
100 ppm of free oil in water content in the CPI water discharge.
2. The facility has an emulsion issue that will need to be addressed before they will see
any meaningful discharge quality.
3. The facility also needs to perform an oil droplet analysis, using a oil and gas industry
certified and proven technology and technician, on the inlet water feeding the CPI’s
to see what oil droplet sizes are entering the systems.
MONARCH SEPARATORS
Over the last eight (8) days, Monarch Site Consultant, along with the ENPPI team and various
members of the Safaniyah team, evaluated every aspect of the CPI’s operations, control
system, as well as the process conditions. These efforts were all focused on analyzing the
inlet and outlet water quality, the site inspection and testing data, as well as performance of
the CPI’s.
I. Observations:
First point of focus was centered around the operation of the operating system along
with monitoring the skim rates. It was discovered that there had been almost three
(3) weeks since the oil discharge valve registered had encountered percentage of
opening. There had been no skimming taking place. The levels were adjusted and
after several days, the volume of oil reduced in the vessel resulting in the levels being
reset to optimal levels.
Many samples were collected. Each sample was consistent no matter what
adjustments to the operating level. There is a very distinct free oil layer on the top
and an opaque middle section followed by a small clean water layer at the bottom of
the sample. There has really been no visual difference in the inlet or outlet samples
from the CPI. The facility has been taking many samples for total oil and grease.
o There were many samples taken and allowed to sit still for up to five (5) days.
The middle section of high turbidity water only started to clear after four (4)
or five (5) days. This is ostensibly an indication of an emulsion and,
considering the length of time it took for the suspended oil droplets to reach
the surface, a significant volume of oil droplets that will be in the sub ten (10)
micron range.
With no further adjustments required on the CPI’s, the process water was inspected.
The goal was to quantify the free oil content, verses emulsions and soluble oil
content. The result is as follows:
o The results were Total Hydrocarbon in the CPI inlet sample = 180 ppm. The
breakdown was as follow:
An oil and gas industry approved oil particle analyzer on the inlet process water
feeding the CPI and the outlet process water discharging from the CPI is
recommended to help verify the data accumulated to date. The facility currently does
not have the ability to measure oil droplets.
