Assessment Title: The uses and features of websites

SNAPCHAT, NETFLIX
I am introducing firstly snapchat, which Is a Social media website with the purpose of
communicating with people in a unique way different from other websites like
Instagram and WhatsApp, the purpose of these apps is the same, communicating, but
snapchat has a different way of communicating, which is by sending photos and
videos with a text message in it called “snaps” , and you can send normal text
messages and voice notes as well like any other social media website. Snapchat
presents with a display of 5 options, camera, chats, location, stories and “reels” all
with different utilities, one of the features that make snapchat famous is the screen
shot function, whenever you will screenshot someone chat/snap/story they will know
it

Snapchat presents with information's such as your username or things like snap score
which tells you how many times you snapped (sending photos) people and how many
times people snapped you. The website stores photos, videos, and chats, snapchat
takes information like how old are you, your name and birthday, the stored photos
are the ones you save
What is real time information? An information that Is always updated when there is a
minimal change, such as your location. Snapchat shares real time information's like
your location, which you can decide to share it or not, or who you want to share it to
or who you don’t want to share, it can be really useful to always know if your friends
are secure and not in trouble, it can be a secure thing for you as well if you get lost
you friends can always help you or send you help.

Snapchat has a few ways of communicating with you, by sending you an email if there
Is any problem with the server or they will directly message you on the platform, you
can communicate with your friends as well by sending snaps which is just a
photo/snap videos which is just a video with a text message or just a text message or
a voice note like other websites, that is why snapchat is a lot famous as it has a unique
way of communicating and to always keep in contact with your friends

Are there any media used and show? OfCourse, images, videos and sounds are used a
lot, images can be sent and saved same for the videos, but can’t be too long or you
won't be able to send it with high quality, sounds are used as well as you can send
voice notes and receive them, you can also put music on your videos on snapchat.

To use promotion on Snapchat you will need to have a public profile and OfCourse
some fame to actually promote, for example if you have fame you can post on your
story a new product that you have launched or promote any other famous brand and
use your famous influence to sell the products. Snapchat for promotion uses snapchat
ads which are mini stories where you can put your products and promote it

What is e-commerce? It is simply just selling products online and only online,
unfortunately snapchat doesn’t have a huge e-commerce, snapchat sell you the
premium version of snapchat for 3,99 pound a month, the features are stuff like
changing the logo or the background of your friends chat, which a normal user can’t,
but an accurate and better example of an e-commerce could be amazon, as it sells
products online.

The only downloadable files on snapchat are the photos/videos that people send you,
what is the purpose of it? Just to save the memories so you don’t lose them in case
you lose your Snapchat account. Another example of downloadable files can be videos
from online like on google, companies might be using downloadable files to save the
information they fear to lose, so they download them and save them in a file.

NETFLIX, SNAPCHAT
Netflix is the opposite of snapchat, snapchat Is social media, Netflix it is an
entertainment website, with the purpose of watching new films/series/cartoon and
play a certain number of games on It.

The best thing about Netflix is that they always upload new movies, The website
presents with a lot of films and categories that you can choose to watch, for example
adventures, action, funny, fantastic films

On Netflix the information that are presented are things like how long your
subscription is what is your name, and date of birth to filter the stuff you watch (for
example if you are a minor or young you might not be able to watch “pushed” content
where brutal or sensitive stuff might be shown. Netflix collects what genre of content
you watch and recommend you watch it

Netflix stores “non-viewing” data that other people cannot watch, Netflix takes data
like your card information for the monthly payment, your date of birth to filter what
you can watch, and you name and surname and your email if they need to
communicate with you or to send you any new offers or to communicate with you
about the new movies you was looking for in the past. If you want you can add more
people to your Netflix account, you can add a certain amount of people depending on
your Netflix plan.
Netflix real time information is how long have you been on the application, and what
is the content you like to watch more than others, this is called analytics, Netflix
collects what you mostly like to watch and display it to you on Netflix on the
“recommended for you” section

It is useful that Netflix has a few ways of communicating with their audience, for
example they have an Instagram account where they could post on their story if the
server goes down, or Netflix could email you if there is any problem as it is one of the
information they ask you in case they need to inform you about any problem with the
website or with your monthly online payment

On Netflix there are a lot of medias that are used, images to show you the film you are
about to watch and what kind of film it is by just watching the photo, videos of course
are used as well as it is an entertaining website, films or episodes are uploaded which
is a video media, sounds as well are used on videos or episodes. By putting the images
and videos Netflix promotes to watch the films
Here Is an example how Netflix promotes movies, by saying that it is worth to wait
and a description about the film to persuade you.

What is e-commerce? E-commerce Is the process of buying or selling only online, and
it is applied on Netflix
Netflix even if it doesn’t sell physical goods, it is still counted an e-commerce as it sells
you digital content like movies, series or cartoons to watch for 1 month, then you will
have to pay again the same amount to be able to watch it, in average a person spends
£131.88 a year on Netflix, and that Is only from 1 person, and Netflix has roughly 247
millions paid users, so roughly Netflix income from e-commerce is 32 billion pounds.

Netflix has downloadable files only on the platform as it would be illegal to download
all the movies and post it online, that would be copyrighting so you can download any
films or series on the platform to watch when you are offline or have no service
around you, once you download the film you wanted to watch you can watch it
whenever you are offline on the platform. The purpose is to entertain the user
whenever they might be bored or be far away from service.

What is a hyperlink? A hyperlink is a visible link that once you click on it sends you to
the desired website of the link, what is the purpose of it? To direct you quickly to the
website without having to search it. Does snapchat have any hyperlink? Yes, it does

As you can see, I sent a hyperlink on Snapchat to my friend and when he opened it
straight sent him on YouTube to the song a copied the link, in fact it is an external
hyperlink as it directed him in another website, which is YouTube.

What are buttons?

Buttons are used to navigate in the same website in more areas, for example on
Netflix there are a lot of different buttons to choose the categories you want to watch.
Are there any buttons on snapchat? Yes

There are buttons like the setting button which will let me navigate in the navigation
setting, or there are the photo buttons where I can take a picture of myself, with the
purpose of making easy the navigation through the website and have more categories
What are hotspots?
Is a specific area of a website that attires the user's attention for example on the JD
sports website there is the discount hotspots where it attires every user, are there any
hotspots on Snapchat? Yes, there is the snapchat premium section which will add
some unique features like changing the logo of your snapchat.

What are email links? It Is a link that you can open from the website to contact the
website if you have any problem with it, does snapchat have any? Yes, it does, with
the purpose of contacting snapchat by going in the setting
What are registration and logins?
Registration is making an account for the first time, it could cost you money or not,
and logins is to access to your account again by putting your old emails and your
password.
On snapchat you can either register or login, if you never made an account you will
have to register by putting name surname, email, and a secure password.
If you already have an account, you can login, but you will have to remember your
password, if you do not remember it, you can always reset it.
With the purpose of access to your account again or create a new one

What are forms?

Forms is when you fill in an online form to make a new account or just fill in your
information, where you fill in your information like name surname date of birth and
email address, snapchat has a form where you must create a new account in case you
don’t have one.
What is accessibility? it is how easy it is for the user to log in from different devices,
for snapchat you can login in any technological device apart from a TV if it is
connected to the Internet, for snapchat you can access it from any phone, any table,
or any laptop/pc.

What are e-commerce facilities? is how well the website sells online products,
snapchat has an unpopular e-commerce, they only sell snapchat premium which adds
new features to the website

This is an example of what snapchat premium adds to your snapchats, but there are
more features. A better example of e-commerce is Netflix, which sells the ability to
watch any movie you want for 1 month and it Is more popular than Snapchat e-
commerce.
What are online forums?
Online forums are where people talk about the website or just talk about anything, for
example a FIFA 24 community could talk on twitter about if the game is good or no or
just talk together and make friends, snapchat has online forums on the website, called
“group chats” where a certain amount of people just talk together and share funny
moments, the only way to be in a group chat on snapchat is to create one or be invited
to one.

How is snapchat aesthetics?

Snapchat main colors are yellow and white, the chats a blue and the normal snaps are
red, and the videos are purple, these are mainly the essential colors of snapchat, the
layout is simple, all the chats are displayed in line and the logos on the bottom
represent what they are used for, the location, chats, photos, stories and reels, there
are no bright colors, just simple colors.

What are hyperlinks? Hyperlinks are links which once you click them, they direct you
to another website or just to another page of the website you are already on, what is
the purpose? To navigate online safely and to navigate where you needed to. Does
Netflix have hyperlinks? Yes, it does, you can share the link of the film you were
watching to your friends and direct them to the film through the hyperlink, and it will
direct you perfectly to the film.

What are buttons? Buttons are used to make easy the navigation through the website
and minimize the layout, one you click any button it will direct you to another page of
the website with different uses
As you can see in the photo once you click on “sign in” it will direct you to another
page but in the same website, does Netflix have any? Yes, from the photo you can see
it is full of buttons, with the purpose of minimize the navigation and make it easier
and compact

What are hot spots? Hot spots are part of the website which attracts the audience's
attention with new things like discounts or new arrivals, does Netflix have any hot
spots? Yes, it does, Netflix gets your attention by displaying on your screen what you
would like to watch or what people watch the most

By showing you this you are more likely to watch more films
What are email links? Email links are used to easily contact the website if you have
any issue with the website, does Netflix have any email links? Yes, you can contact
Netflix by email if you have any problem with the website

What are registration and logins?

Registration and logins are used to make new accounts by putting information like
name, surname, email address and password, and logins are used to access again to
your account, on Netflix you will surely have to registrate or login to be able to watch
the movies you want

What are forms? Form are used to fill in an online form usually used to make a new
account or for any other online purpose where private information might be needed,
does Netflix have forms? Yes, it does, when you need to make a new account, you will
have to fill in a form where you need to put your email address, a password and your
bank account details.
What is accessibility? Accessibility is how well you can access from other devices, on
Netflix you can access from any device, from a phone, from a tablet, laptop, pc or ever
from a TV or from your car advanced screen, you can access on Netflix from anywhere
you want from any device that is compatible with it

What are E-commerce facilities? Is how well is the website good at e-commerce and if
it is used a lot and if it is popular, a good example can be amazon, as it is popular in
the whole world to be known as selling a lot of products online, Netflix has a popular
e-commerce as well, Netflix does not sell physical products but sell you the ability to
watch any movie or series for 1 month with any language you want
What are online forums? Online forums are a place where a community talks about
the website new features, for example a Call of Duty community talk on twitter about
the new maps and events, Netflix has a community as well which talks about the new
films and their opinion about it.

Netflix Aesthetics
Netflix has simple color, the logo is all red with a black background, once you enter the
website the layout it is simple, on the left-hand side there will be every category you
will be looking for, and on the right there will be every film that is recommended for
you and what you still have to watch, every film will have their own photo which will
roughly describe the photo.

SNAPCHAT DISCUSS

Snapchat strength it is that it has more privacy than other websites, on snapchat or
WhatsApp the messages remain Forever, and you can screenshot anything without
being noticed, but on snapchat the chats will disappear after 24 hours, and if you
screenshot the chat your friends will get a message that you did, and on snapchat you
can’t screenshot any story or any photo that you got sent, snapchat has a strong user
base and a unique softer, which is hard to hack
But snapchat has weaknesses as well, content cannot be shared outside the platform,
and the different features of the app might confuse a beginner user at the start.
Snapchat tried to diversify even more from other websites by adding snapchat
spectacles, which proved to be a great failure.

How could the website be improved? By making easier for the user to find the desired
filter, it is always hard to find the favorite lens so they should make easier to find
them, then another thing to improve snapchat is detect all the bots and ban them and
prevent they add people and scam them.

Relating to Instagram it is way easier to find your favorite filter, and Instagram detects
any offensive comment and tries the best to ban all the bots and prevent for the user
to get banned

NETFLIX DISCUSS
Netflix strength is that every movie it is high quality, and the company offers a few
numbers of exclusives offers, like discounts or an extension of your monthly
subscription, the servers are really good, and it is never laggy, almost never a problem
and if there it is any, they will contact you

However, Netflix has weaknesses as well, limited copyright, Netflix does not own
every film, and this affects in a bad way the audience and the company for a loss of
money, Netflix has high content production cost as well which is a drawback for the
company, and it is sometimes hard for Netflix to keep profitability.

How could Netflix be improved?

Even thought has a lot of content they launch everything once, when they should be
doing it once a week slowly to keep the consistency, add more language would be a
good thing so more people from different countries could watch Netflix and it would
be nice to make requests, so the community could ask what they want and what they
don’t care about

Relating to other websites amazon has more films than Netflix (7900vs4300) and
1080p and 4K it is offered at the same price, for Netflix you must pay more for 4K
quality

CONCLUSION
In conclusion I am giving 4 stars out of 5 for snapchat, I like the fact that it has more
privacy than other websites and a better server with less bugs, it has a lot of different
features like the location, but for Netflix I am giving 3 stars out of 5 it has a lot of
movies but other websites have more at a better price, and you have to pay more for
a better quality, where for other websites you pay the same and still have a high
quality
