CLO 2: Builds small network with an appropriate network devices for a given situation. (P3, PLO3)
Objective
This practical exercise is to gain a practical understanding of how web and email protocols
operate. Students will set up a basic network topology, configure web and email services,
and observe the communication flow between clients and servers.

PART 1: Set Up the Network Topology

a. Create a new network topology based on figure above.

b. Connect the PC devices to the switch.
c. Connect the switch to the router.
d. Connect the router to the server.
e. Cabling all devices and configure IP Address according to IP table. Make sure correct
cable and correct port.

PART 2: Configure and Verify Web Services and Email Services on Servers

Step 1: Configure web services on Server.

a. Click Server and click the Services tab > HTTP.
b. Click On to enable HTTP and HTTP Secure (HTTPS).
c. Optional. Personalize the HTML code.

Step 2: Verify the web servers by accessing the web pages.

There are many endpoint devices in this network, but for the purposes of this step, use
PC3.
a. Click PC-S1 and click the Desktop tab > Web Browser.
b. In the URL box, enter 192.168.2.2 as the IP address and click Go. The Server
website displays.
c. Click PC-S2 and click the Desktop tab > Web Browser.
d. In the URL box, enter jtmk.com and click Go. The Server website displays.
e. What protocol is translating the jtmk.com names to IP addresses?

_______

Step 3: Configure Server to send (SMTP) and receive (POP3) Email.

a. Click CentralServer, and then select the Services tab followed by the EMAIL button.
b. Click On to enable the SMTP and POP3.
c. Set the domain name to centralserver.pt.pka and click Set.
d. Create a user named central-user with password cisco. Click + to add the user.
Step 4: Configure PC-S1 to use the Server email service.
a. Click PC-S1 and click the Desktop tab > E Mail.
b. Enter the following values into their respective fields:
1) Your Name: student1
2) Email Address: [email protected]
3) Incoming Mail Server: 192.168.2.2
4) Outgoing Mail Server: 192.168.2.2
5) User Name: student1
6) Password: cisco
c. Click Save. The Mail Browser window displays.
d. Click Receive. If everything has been set up correctly on both the client and server,
the Mail Browser window displays the Receive Mail Success message
confirmation.

Step 5: Configure PC-S2 to use the Server email service.

a. Click PC-S1 and click the Desktop tab > E Mail.
b. Enter the following values into their respective fields:
1) Your Name: student2
2) Email Address: [email protected]
3) Incoming Mail Server: 192.168.2.2
4) Outgoing Mail Server: 192.168.2.2
5) User Name: student2
6) Password: cisco
c. Click Save. The Mail Browser window displays.
d. Click Receive. If everything has been set up correctly on both the client and server,
the Mail Browser window displays the Receive Mail Success message
confirmation.
PART 3: Test Connectivity

Step 1:
a. From PC-S1, open a web browser and enter the IP address of the server
(192.168.2.2).
b. Access the web page hosted on the server.
c. Observe the HTTP request and response packets using Packet Tracer's simulation
mode.
d. Show the result of HTTP request packets using screen shoot.

Step 2:
a. From PC-S1, compose an email and send it to PC-S2's email address.
b. Check PC-S2's email client for new messages and verify the email reception.
c. Use Packet Tracer's simulation mode to observe the SMTP and IMAP
communication between the email client and the email server.
d. Show the result using screen shoot.

PART 4: Discussion
a. Discuss the importance of protocols in web and email communication.
b. Reflect on how the observed communication flow aligns with the OSI model.

Write conclusion for this practical exercise in your report.
