SEMI-DETAILED LESSON PLAN OF SCIENCE 6

Annotations
I. OBJECTIVES: At the end of an interactive discussion, 80% of the pupils are
expected to:
a. Describe the characteristics and uses of simple machines;
b. Manipulate the different simple machines; and
c. Show appreciation on the importance of simple machines to
daily life.

II.SUBJECT a. Topic: Characteristics and Uses Simple Machines.

MATTER b. References: Science VI Quarter 3, Module 3 week 6 CG
CODE: S6FE-IIIg-i-3
c. Materials: PowerPoint presentation, Printed Materials,
Laptop
d. Value focus: Appreciate the importance of simple machines
in daily life.
d. Integration: EPP, MUSIC and Health

III. PROCEDURE:
A. Preparatory 1. Drill
Activities: - The Teacher will show some pictures and let the pupils identify if
simple machine or not.

2. Review
-Let the pupils answer the following questions:
1. What was our topic yesterday?
2. What is Friction?

3. Motivation
-Present a video clip about a simple machine song.
-Let the pupil answer the following question:
1. What is the song about?
2. What things are mentioned in the song?
3. Why are Simple Machines important?
(The teacher writes the pupil’s answers on the board observing
correct cursive handwriting and in Complete sentences.

Sitting of standards
Ask the questions below.
What are you going to do if your teacher is talking here in front?
What else?

1. Presenting the Lesson

- The teacher will present a Powerpoint Presentation about Simple
Machines.
-What are the simple machines mentioned in the presentation?
-How will you describe each?
-What are the uses of each?
-Why do we use simple machines?
B.Developmental -Why are simple machines important?
Activities -List down different simple machines

2. Discussion

Types, Characteristics, Tool and Use/s of Simple Machines

Inclined Plane-A flat surface raised at an angle (sloping or slanting)

surface, looks like a ramp. (Stairs, slide, and wood ramp). Lift or raise
a heavy object by moving object by moving up a slope.

Wedge-Objects with two inclined planes positioned back to back

that tapers to a thin edge. (Nails, axes, pins, and knives). Cutting or
splitting certain materials apart.

Wheel and axle-Made up of a circular frame (wheel) that revolves

on a shaft or rod (axle). (Rolling Pin, doorknob, and steering wheel).
Raising weights and carrying or transport loads over land and travel
a long distance.

Pulley-A wheel carries a flexible rope, cord, cable, chain, or belt on

its rim. (Flagpole, ropes on a sailboat, and movable clothesline).
Lifting or raising and lowering a load easier.

Screw-A long inclined plane wrapped around a shaft. *A circular

cylindrical thing with a continuous winding or spiral rib. (Jar lid, bolt,
and bottom end of a bulb). Fastens or hold fastened things and used
to hold lifted objects.

Lever-A long beam or bar that rests or turns or lifts on support

(fulcrum). The lever has three parts: fulcrum, load, and effort. (can
opener, tweezers and wheelbarrow). Lifting, removing, or pulling out
objects easily.

3. Group activity (Differentiated instruction) (5 min)

- Divide the pupils into 3 groups. Each group will do the following
task in five minutes.

Group 1

Direction: Manipulate the following materials: scissors, stairs,

doorknob, knife, bolt, pulley, broom, nail cutter, and faucet.

Caution: Be careful with the sharp objects.

The group will observe and analyze the characteristics and uses
of the materials.
4.Independent Practice:
Direction: Some machines are so simple that we do not even realize
that they are machines. Identify each simple machine described
below.

1.Machine for opening cans

2.Machine for cutting paper
3.Machine used for moving sand from one place to another
4.Machine used for pulling nails
5.Machine used for catching fish
5. Generalization:

Concept Mapping

1.What are the different simple machines?

2. Describe each simple machine.

3. What are the importance of each simple machines.
IV. Evaluation:
Direction: Read carefully, and then choose the correct
answer by writing the letter on your answer sheet.
1.Which of the following best explains why lifting
heavy object with a single fixed pulley and a rope
makes the tasks seem easier?
a.Less force is needed to lift the object.
b.The direction of the force required to lift the object is
changed.
c.Less work is done when moving the object
d.The force needed to move the object’s is applied over
a greater distance.
2.The three types of pulleys systems are fixed, movable
and pull.
a.Block and Attack b. Tackle and Sing
c. Movable and Pull d. Block and Tackle
3.A stiff bar that moves about a fixed point is a
a. lever b. wheel and axle
c. wedge d. inclined plane
4. Which simple machine would a stairs be an
example?
a. a wedge b. a pulley
c. an inclined plane d. a lever
5. Which is an example of a wheel and axle?
a. Hammer c. Ramp
b. Wagon d. Flag Pole

V. Assignment:

Direction: Give some safety measures in handling

Simple Machines.
