This document describes how to install and configure the Adobe LiveCycle Server
to create PDF representations for viewing and for marking up in Creo View.

7
Overview of LiveCycle Server Installation
Adobe LiveCycle is a server-based application that publishes Microsoft Office
documents and other documents to PDF. With LiveCycle server, you can create
PDF representations of design iterations to view them and to mark them up in
Creo View.
You must install LiveCycle on a server separate from Windchill and from the Creo
View Adapter for PDF. To use the Creo View Adapter for PDF, you must first
install and configure all the necessary software on separate servers:
• LiveCycle server including Adobe Acrobat
• Creo View Adapter for PDF
• Windchill server
For information on how to configure and use Creo View Adapter for PDF, refer to
the Configuring the Creo View Adapter for PDF chapter in PTC Creo View
MCAD Adapters 3.0 Installation and Configuration Guide.
For further information on Windchill WVS configuration settings to support the
LiveCycle server, refer to WVS Adobe LiveCycle Server Integration in the
Windchill Help Center.

System Requirements

Note
• Make sure that you have a server not used by Windchill on which to install
LiveCycle Server.
• It is important that you install and activate these programs in the following
order:
1. Windows Server
2. Microsoft Office 2010
3. Adobe Acrobat XI Pro

1. First install the Windows Server 2008R2 64-bit operating system.

• If you require multi-threaded PDF conversion verify that these conditions
are met:
○ Patch the operating system with Microsoft Hotfix 2815716 (http://
support.microsoft.com/kb/2815716) for the Splwow64.exe process.
○ Each user needs to have completed the installation and run at least
once Adobe Acrobat (Acrobat.exe) and Adobe Distiller
(acrodist.exe).
○ Multi-threaded PDF conversion cannot run when UAC is enabled. For
further information click here.
After installing and activating the Window server, install and activate
Microsoft Office:
2. Install and activate Microsoft Office 2010 including Asian font support if
necessary.
Activate Microsoft Word, Microsoft Visio, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft

you will register on the A d m i n u s e r c r e d e n t i a l s f o r n a t i v e P D F c o n v e r s i o n s
page have completed this Microsoft Software Activation procedure. See
step 1 in the section Completing the Adobe LiveCycle Installation on page
13.
• If a previous version of Adobe Acrobat is installed on the server, remove it
before installing this version.
• Do not allow automatic updating of Adobe Acrobat XI until after the
installation and configuration of LiveCycle Server ES4 is complete. See
Configuring Advanced Server Options on page 19 for instructions for
updating.
• Install the Adobe Acrobat XI Pro only from the Adobe LiveCycle ES4

Large documents require several gigabytes of disk space for temporary input and
output of files. If transactions time out occurs, sufficient disk space may be a
problem. Moving to a different file system or cleaning out files periodically may
be required.
The affected subfolders for disk space are as follows:
%LC_TEMP_FOLDER%\AdobeDocumentStorage\local\
%LC_TEMP_FOLDER%\pdfg-<HOSTNAME>\
Default: C:\Windows\Temp
To find both%LC_TEMP_FOLDER% folders, follow these steps:

PowerPoint files at one time. If you run Microsoft Excel or Microsoft Visio, the
conversion is treated as a single-thread procedure by the LiveCycle server.

Prerequisites for Multi-threaded native PDF conversions

• You must install LiveCycle on a server separate from Windchill and from the
Creo View Adapter for PDF machines.
• Each Creo View Adapter for PDF must be installed on a separate machine.
• Every user whose credentials are to be registered must complete the Microsoft
Software Activation process for the installed Microsoft Word application.
• Every user whose credentials are to be registered must have run both of these
applications at least once:
○ Adobe Acrobat—Adobe\Acrobat 11.0\Acrobat\Acrobat.exe
○ Adobe Distiller—Adobe\Acrobat 11.0\Acrobat\
acrodist.exe
• Every user whose credentials are to be registered must be a local administrator
and must have the R e p l a c e a p r o c e s s l e v e l t o k e n policy enabled.(In the G r o u p
