frozen in time and wakes up to find a much different world than it remembered. The dinosaur
then would go on an adventure with a person it meets midway through panicking. The film did
turn out as planned in the pitch. Especially the scene where the dinosaur and the person are
playing in a park. Because of all that I had imagined, I could re-create it in real life, which was
really cool to experience.
At first, when this project was brought up, I had no idea what I wanted to do. It took a lot
of planning and thinking, but after that, I was able to come up with a concept that was
challenging but, at the same time, easy enough for me to get done within my resources and
deadlines. Thinking of the concept and how I would plan it all out to make a storyline was
definitely challenging, but putting my thoughts and efforts into it helped me overcome it. Another
challenge was the communication with the costume because, at the last minute, I thought I
wasn't going to have a dinosaur costume since a miscommunication happened with it, but
luckily I was able to get it on the day of the shoot.
During the production phase, getting the right things to film your project is essential.
Even tho it does not seem like it, one of the most important things to focus on is audio. I myself
made the mistake of not using a boom or lavaliers to get good audio, which resulted in my audio
not being the best. Another thing is being careful with the time you have to shoot because I got
rushed at one point towards the end of shooting, and you can very much tell in the film.
During the Post-Production phase, I definitely had to challenge myself in order to figure
out how to do the graphic I wanted in order to truly make the film come to life since that graphic
was very essential to the film. After many YouTube tutorials, I managed to get it done in time.
Another challenge that I had to overcome was the audio fixing. In one clip, I noticed there was a
plane in the background, which was really annoying, but I managed to get it fixed with de-noise
and some touch-ups. Along with that, some parts were too loud in background noise but too low
on the talking, which was bad. I managed to fix some parts, but not all. The overall lesson of this
is to always focus on audio because it can truly make a difference in your film.
Production is my favorite part of the production process because you bring to life the
script you wrote in the pre-production process. It is always so incredible to see what was once
an idea become something real. While in the production phase, filming is always so liberating
because you get to use your imagination and creative eye in order to create your ideal film.
Especially when filming my film, which was silly and fun to watch someone in a dinosaur running
around and playing in the park. Overall, during the making of this film, it was just wonderful
watching my imagination come to life.
One of my biggest weaknesses is during pre-production because I am not good at
brainstorming ideas or writing scripts. To me pre-production is definitely challenging but I can
improve in this area by getting more practice at it and doing it more often. On the other hand
one of my strengths is during the post-production which is when you put everything together and
get your final product. I think I am decent enough to get a decent edit out of me doing an edit
although there is always room for improvement, and I think I can get that improvement if I edit
more and learn new things by searching up tutorials. Not only that but I can always take on
challenges to try out different types of editing hacks or even learn how to make
graphics/animations for edits. For example what I did to learn how to make the graphic of the ice
in order to give my film that part that it needed in order to come to life. It took me many tries and
tutorials to get it right but it thankfully got done very well.
My film has some parts to it that were effective, like the sequence of Rex and Ali playing
in the park. While watching the film in class I heard some reactions from the people when
watching that part of the film. Specifically in one of the scenes when the dinosaur is spinning, I
added some sound effects of the dinosaur yelling which I saw definitely made it funnier and it
seemed to work on others. My film was made for anyone to enjoy so I’d say it did reach it’s
audience.
