Speed Maths Day 1

The document provides step-by-step instructions for several mathematical methods: multiplying by 11, squaring 2-digit numbers between 25-75 and 75-125, using the 'criss-cross' method for multiplication, and examples of multiplying and adding 3-digit numbers in a specific pattern.

Day 1

1. 11s method

A) 43* 11= 4 7 3

Write the numbers 4 and 3 as it is

Add them and put it in the middle.

B) 67 *11 = 7 3 7

Write the numbers 6 and 7 as it is

Add them ( you get 13 , put 3 in the middle and carry 1 to the number
in the 100s place ) add 1 to 6 we get 7 3 7 .

(1)

6 37
C) 432 *11= 4 7 5 2

From the units place .

Write the units digit as it is . 2

Add numbers in the units and tens and put it to the left 2 + 3 = 5

Add the next two numbers 3 and 4 and put next . 3 + 4 = 7

Thousands digit as it is . 4

Ans : 4 7 5 2

This continues as the number of digit expands .Keep adding 2 digits at a time
leaving the 1st and last digit in the corners .

If there is carry over , do it accordingly .

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

2 . Squaring between 25 and 75

Eg (52 )^2

a. Subtract the number by 50

52 - 50 = 2

Square that number and write it as 2 digits

2 squared = 0 4

b. Subtract the given number by 25 and write the answer filling the remaining
digits

52 - 25 = 27

Ans : 27 04

2. (32)^2

Step 1 : 32 - 50 = - 18

Squaring 18 gives us 324 , take only 2 digits to fill the right portion of the answer.
Carry over 3

Step 2 : 32- 25 = 7

Add that 3 to this new answer . 7 + 3 = 10

Ans : 10 24

3) Squaring between 75 and 125

Eg 102 ^2

Step 1 : 102 - 100 = 2

Add this answer back to the number

102+ 2 = 104

Square that 2 and write it as 04 ( To maintain 2 digits)

Ans : 104 04

b) 98 ^2

98 - 100 = -2

Add (– 2) to the number 98 – 2 = 96

Square (-2)^2 = 04

Ans : 96 04

112 ^2

112- 100 = 12

Add to the number 112+ 12 = 124

12 squared 144 . Add that 1 ( carry over to the next digit on the left

12 4 44 = 125 44.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

4) Criss cross method

42

*21

Step 1

Multiply the units digits first

2*1=2
Step 2

Multiply the cross pair numbers

( 4 with1 )+ (2 with 2)= 8

Step 3

Multiply the tens digit as the third step 4*2=8

Now arrange the numbers

Ans 8 8 2 .

If there is excess digits carry over to the next digits place .

This method applies to 3 digits as well

Step 1 : O * o

STEP 2 : (T*o)+ (O*t)

Step 3 : (H*o)+(O*h)+(T*t)

Step 4 : (T*h)+(H*t)

Step 5: H*h

H hundreds
T tens

O ones

multiplying two 13 digit numbers in less than 20 secs

Multiplying pattern of Nos

72

78

When the ones place Nos ( 2 and 8 ) add up to 10 and if the tens place Nos (
7 here ) are the same we apply this shortcut

Procedure

Multiply 2 and 8 as it is and write the answer 16

Multiply the tens digit No 7 with its next number 8 and write as 56

72

78

56 16

ANS : 5 6 1 6
Ex : 2

93 ( 3 * 7 = 21 )

97 ( 9 * 10 = 90)

Mystic Sum

Ask your friend to call out a 3 digit number

Ex 4 6 8

As soon as u get the number Subtract 2 from it and add a 2 in the front
of the 3 digit and write down leaving some space

So we will write 2 4 6 6

Get the 2nd 3 digit number from friend

For e x 3 5 7

You will write the 3rd 3 digit number by subtracting 3 5 7 from 9 9 9

What we write is 6 4 2

Repeat it once more

For ex if friend gives 8 1 5 this time

We will write the 5th 3 digit number by subtracting 8 1 5 from 9 9 9

We write 1 8 4

Now if we add
