5.0 Setting-out and Securing the Work Area (Site Possession - SP)

Generally, on turn-over of the Work Area (Site Possession) by ATI the Contractor’s
Survey Team together with assigned Safety Group shall:

a. pre-establish the limits of the Site Possession area [Four (4) corners, minimum)]
and thereafter,
b. completely secure the Work Area

Generally, in all cases and stages of the repair Works, the provision of complete
enclosure using concrete barriers, installation of safety signage’s, directional/traffic
signage’s and related items to safely secure the area particularly to all workers and
equipment thereat should be the priority step of the work to be carried out. (refer to MS-
Lifting….)

Set-out in-situ the location and establish the limits of construction of the elements to be
repaired, complete with visible markings (use white coloured paint), and reference
gridlines. Limits of construction of slabs may be taken from the underside from a
given reference and transferred on slab deck whereupon markings be established.

6.0 Method Statements

ABOVE DECK REPAIR

A. Repair of suspended slabs

A.1 Demolition/removal of damaged or defective structural slab

a. Workers all set with complete PPE’s appropriate to the activity, including
environmental protection, i.e. noise and dust control

b. Install warning signage’s at underdeck, conspicuously displayed and highly visible

c. Demolish slab to the required limits using hand-held jack hammer, pneumatic type
or AC operated or any appropriate equivalent. Start the demolition approximately at
mid-section such that a pilot hole is formed, so that location of existing steel
reinforcement is seen, where good steel reinforcement is to be maintained and
where to cut deteriorated ones that need to be replaced. Slab may be broken into
small chunks.

d. Dispose offsite concrete slab chunks /other debris resulting from the demolition
work.

e. Net-cut proposed construction joints using concrete saw (cutter).

A.2 False works, form setting, placement of steel reinforcement, and inspection.

a. On completion of demolition, install forms using phenolic boards on

suspended steel joists, supported with steel rods (hangers) resting on
steel WF sections on slab.
b. Place steel reinforcement in accordance with approved placement
drawings (Shop Drawings) and while work is in progress, coordinate with
Project-supervision Team for inspection by accomplishing CQC
inspection form. Any deficient work shall be rectified.
c. Coordinate for batching and delivery of ready-mixed concrete (of
approved design mix, quantity and time of placement), as such, is the
sole responsibility of the Contractor.
d. Place concrete (directly through chutes), following good engineering,
construction industry practices, codes and standards (field sampling and
testing - slump, concrete temperature, other fresh concrete properties,
taking of specimen samples, recording), sufficient and appropriate
concrete consolidation equipment and similar equipment should be on
site.

Concrete placement at night shall be subject to prior approval of the

Client / Engineer.

e. Protect newly cast concrete from possible damage and cure in

accordance with the requirements set-forth in the Technical
Specifications/ and or good engineering/construction industry practices.

Unless existing field condition so dictates, or modification is necessary, this

method or cycle of slab repair shall be applicable in all Piers (Pier 3, 5, 9 &15).

UNDERDECK REPAIR

In General work:

 All underdeck repair works shall be using floaters/pontoons.

 Temporary access from pier slab shall be provided for access of materials that will
execute all the repair underdeck and shall be restored after completing the repair
work.
 All power tools used on this repair work electrically powered by the portable
welding machine/generator set.

 Concrete placement

 For Beam, Pile Cap and Fender Block. Concrete mix is conveyed to a
mixing bowl of box. The box is position on the floater before putting the
concrete mix. Concrete crew will fill the box manually until it has reached
the required volume. The floater with mixing box is then led to the location
where concrete placement is done and manually poured through the aid
of pail.

 For Piles, place concrete by using concrete pump, flexible discharge

hose will be lowered through the temporary hole and then connected to
the built-in socket provided at the bottom of the steel forms.

 For Fender Beam. Place concrete directly through chutes.

Follow good engineering, construction industry practices, codes and

standards (field sampling and testing - slump, concrete temperature, other
fresh concrete properties, taking of specimen samples, recording), sufficient
and appropriate concrete consolidation equipment and similar equipment
should be on site.
 All execution of retrofitting and strengthening shall be in accordance to conditions
of contract, approved shop drawings and materials to be used prior to
commencing of work.
