Use the relevant scenario based on your area of practice/discipline (i.e., Mental health
nursing, Learning disabilities, adult nursing, Child nursing)
Read and identify the needs of the individual in scenario within your role as a nurse/student
nurse.
Identify evidence-based interventions for meeting the identified needs of the individual in
scenario.
Formulate/develop a case presentation slide to demonstrate your understanding of the need
and how these needs will be met

decisions. Mental capacity: explain an assessment may be conducted.
6. Identify patient needs. Highlighting all the needs identified from the scenario. –
Needs/Problems = Nursing Diagnosis (Clinical judgement). Can be Actual/noticeable
problems OR Potential/risk:
1. Actual Needs/Problems - 3 things to consider:
o The defining characteristic (symptoms)= verbalised by
patient
o The related factor (what caused the problem) = Related to
inflammation of the muscles in the joint
o Nursing Diagnosis Problem statement= Acute Pain
2. Potential Needs/Problems /Risk – 2 things to consider
o The risk factors (symptom or signs) = Related to weakness of
the muscle
o Risk diagnostic label (potential risk) = Risk of fall

*mental capacity: the general principle (mental capacity act 2005) that everyone has capacity – for
the presentation explain however what we would need to do if he didn’t have mental capacity. Best
