1.Define the term software. Name its types.
Ans.A software is a collection of a programme that is stored and round the computer hardware, and health services to work on computer. It is that part of a computer , which cannot be touched or seen. Software Is of two types system software and application software. 2.What is an operating system? Mention its two functions. Ans.An operating system is needed to operate a computer. It controls the overall activities of a computer. It acts as a link between the user and the hardware, and enables them to work together. The two main functions of operating system are An operating system controls the working of all the input and output devices. It runs the application software like paint ,word ,PowerPoint etc. 3.Explain the term utility software with an example. Ans.Utility software perform specific tasks usually related to manage in a computer, it’s devices, or programs. These programs assist in the smooth functioning of the computer system and help it to perform better. Antivirus, backup, disk repair, file management, compression and network programs are some of the examples of the utility programs. 4.What do you understand by the term defragmentation of a disk? Ans.Fragmentation occurs when hard disk does not findcontiguous memory to store large files. Fragmented data needs to be rearranged and consolidated into one contiguous area of the disk's free space. This process is called defragmentation. 5.Describe the general purpose application software. Also, mention any four examples. Ans.The set of programs, developed by the programmers in order to perform many tasks to fulfill the general needs of the people. The four examples of general purpose application software are:- Word processing software electronic spreadsheet Database management system Presentation software 6.Why is it important to keep the backup of your data regularly? Ans.It is important to keep the back up of your data regularly this cause occasionally, hard disc may fail, resulting in the loss of all the files stored in it. Hence, an intelligent user keeps a backup of his files on various secondary storage devices so that the original files can be restored in the case of such failures. 7. Differentiate between the system software and application software. Ans.
