MATHEMATICS – CLASS 10
Time: hours Maximum Marks: 80
Answer to this paper must be written on the paper provided separately.
You will not be allowed to write during the first 15 minutes.
This time is to be spent in reading the question paper.
The time given at the top of this paper is the time allowed for writing the answers.
Attempts all questions from Section A and any four questions from Section B.
All working, including rough work, must be clearly shown, and must be done on the same sheet as the rest of
the answer.
Omission of essential working will result in loss of marks.
The intended marks for questions or parts of questions are given in brackets [ ].
Mathematical tables and graph papers are provided.

(b) Use a ruler and a pair of compasses to construct ∆ABC in which BC = 5.2 cm, ∠ABC = 600 and AB = 6
cm. Construct a circle of 2.5 cm radius to touch both the arms ∠ABC of ∆ABC. [4]
(c) Use graph paper for this question. The points A(2, 3), B(4, 5) and C(7, 2) are the vertices of ∆ABC.
(i) Write down the coordinates of A′, B′, C′ if ∆A′B′C′ is the image of ∆ABC when reflected in the
origin.
(ii) Write down the coordinates of A′′, B′′, C′′ if ∆A′′B′′C′′ is the image of ∆ABC, when reflected in
the x-axis.
(iii) Mention the special name of the quadrilateral BCC′′B′′ and find its area. [4]

(a) The daily wages of 160 workers in a building project are given:

(b) In the given figure, O is the centre of the circle. The tangent PT meets the diameter RQ produced at P.

(ii) If PT = 6 cm, QR = 9 cm, find the length of PQ. [4]
(c) The inner circumference of the rim of a circular metal tub is 44 cm.

(b) A model of a ship is made to a scale of 1 : 200.
(i) The length of the model is 4 m. Calculate the length of the ship.
(ii) The area of the deck of the ship is 1,60,000 m2. Find the area of the deck of the model.
(iii) The volume of the model is 200 litres. Calculate the volume of the ship in m3. [3]
(c) Mantu opened a recurring deposit of ₹ 400 per month. The bank gives 6% p.a. as the rate of interest. If
the maturity value of this account is ₹ 6,240, find the time, in months, of this recurring deposit account.

(a) If (x - 2) is a factor of the expression 2x3 + ax2 + bx – 14 and when the expression is divided by (x - 3), it
leaves a remainder 52, find the values of a and b. [3]
(b) A man standing on level ground, observes that a pole 30 m away subtends an angle of 500 at his eye,
which is 2 m above the ground level. Calculate the height of the pole. (Give your answer correct to a
length of a metre) [3]
(c) John sends his servant to the market to buy oranges worth ₹ 15. The servant eats three oranges on the
way. John pays 25 paise per orange more than the market price. Taking x to be the number of oranges
which John receives, form a quadratic equation in x. Hence, find the value of x. [4]

(a) A box contains some green, yellow and white tennis balls. The probability of selecting a green ball is 5
and the probability of selecting a yellow ball is 1. If the box contains 10 white balls, then find:
(i) Total number of balls in the box.
(ii) Probability of selecting a white ball [3]
(b) A cone and a sphere having the same radius are melted and recast into a cylinder. The radius and
height of the cone are 3 cm and 12 cm respectively. If the radius of the cylinder so formed is 2 cm, find
the height of the cylinder. [3]
(c) In the given diagram, ABCD is a cyclic quadrilateral and PQ is a tangent to the smaller circle at E. Given
∠AEP = 700, ∠BOC = 1100. Find:

(c) A retailer buys an article at a discount of 15% on the printed price from a wholesaler. He marks up the
price by 10% on the printed price but due to competition in the market, he allows a discount of 5% on
the market price to a buyer. If the rate of GST is 12% and the buyer pays ₹ 468.16 for the article inclusive
of tax (under GST), find:
(i) The printed price of the article.
(ii) The profit percentage of the retailer. [4]
