Introduction

The Aitchison College Language and Literary Festival ( ACLLF ) will be the
culmination of the collaborative efforts of four prestigious, linguistic
societies of Aitchison College- the Literary Society, Bazm-e-Adab Society,
French Society, and German Society. It will consist of four mains sections:
1. English Section
3. French Section
3. German Section
4. Urdu Section

ACLLF will prove to be one of the most anticipated and diverse linguistic
events of the year in Pakistan, being held on the 11th and 12th of November,
2022. Details of each individual sections are as mentioned below.

Categories
Great Literature Quiz:

The great literature quiz will reward those with knowledge in all spheres of
literature. It will entail quizzes and questions that are related to modern and
classic literature, as well as literary devices. This is a general knowledge
category. This will be a compulsory category.

Prosperos poetry:

Prospero’s poetry is a category made for the inner poets within us all. This
category will have challenges like poetry writing and recitation.

Shakespeare’s prodige:

This category will judge delegates on their interpretation and delivery of


monologues primarily from famous Shakespearean plays.

Labyrinth of words:

The labyrinth of words is a challenging literary puzzle that delegates will


have to solve in the form of a literary cross word that gives clues for words
linked to literature.

Book Club:

This category will be a book discussion session. An innovative twist will be


given to the usual book club.

Fantasia:

Fantasia is a writing competition. The writers will have to write the


conclusion of a plot.This will be a compulsory category.

Creative Writing
A list of 30 words will be allotted beforehand to the delegates, of which 10
words will be chosen at random at the day of the event.. The delegates will
be required to compose a piece of writing using those 10 words.

Quiz
This Round entails delegates to answer questions about French language,
history and culture.. There will be two rounds comprising of a knockout and
a rapid buzzer round. This is a compulsory category.

Spelling Bee
A spelling sheet will be provided prior to the event. The competition will test
the participants’ ability to spell those words correctly in French.

Monologue
Participants will be required to deliver a 3 to 5 minute monologue in French
from a popular text.

Poetry Recital
This round entails participants to recite French poetry in a delicate manner,
keeping in mind subtle nuances and style.

Guest Speaker Session


An esteemed guest will be invited to engage with the participating teams
on exciting topics to add to their knowledge and increase their exposure.

Categories
Cultural Conundrum (Compulsory Stalls Category)
Each Team will be expected to choose an invention from German-speaking
countries on first come first get basis. Teams will be required to present a
stall showcasing their chosen invention.

Essay Writing
Participants will be given 5 topics, in the study guide, before the event to
get familiarized with. Out of the 5 set topics, any two will be given on the
day of the event.

German Quiz
This category will focus on testing the delegates' knowledge in various
areas of interest related to German-speaking countries and their respective
cultures.

Poetry
This category will focus on testing the delegates' oratory skills which include
expression, feel for the language and confidence in the poem of their
choosing.

Monologue
The theme of the monologue is that a famous ancient German personality
has somehow ended up in this century. He reacts to the new world and how
the human race has evolved since his time. Delegates are to elaborate on
this topic.

Poster Making
Delegates will be asked to make a live poster, on a set topic, which will be
communicated to the delegates shortly before the start of the category.

Charter of Discipline
The failure to refrain from the following may result in disqualification of
the whole team:

The use of offensive language or inappropriate conduct with the ACLLF


team, Aitchison College Staff, or other delegates.

The use of any means or methods to gain an unfair advantage over


other delegates.

Objection against the judges’ decisions. The choices of the judges are
deemed to be final and will not be argued over.

Any attempt at bullying, cyber-bullying or harassment towards any


other delegate.

Portrayal of vulgarity/obscenity or hostility.

The usage or carrying of weapons, narcotics/alcohol or any sort of


intoxicant is strictly prohibited.

The usage of cigarettes or any kind of vaporizers e.g. vapes/juul is


strictly prohibited.

Dress Code
This dress code is insisted for schools without a uniform policy, otherwise it
is compulsory for students to participate in the respective school uniforms.
1. Western business attire can be worn by both males and females
2. Eastern attire is allowed for females
3. Off shoulder clothing is not allowed for both males and females
4. Revealing clothing is not to be worn under any circumstances.
5. All clothing worn by the delegates must be clean, neat and in good
condition.
6. Clothing with inappropriate, suggestive or derogatory pictures or
phrases is not to be worn.
7. Jewellery or accessories that may be deemed inappropriate for the
learning environment may be subject to review by the administration.
8. Participants must wear formal/semi-formal western or eastern clothing
(Collared shirt with jeans/trousers. Shalwar kameez, formal tops etc).
9. Sheer clothing is not allowed.
10. Shirts, kameez and other tops must be of appropriate length.
11. Shorts, miniskirts, sleeveless shirts and other similar clothing is not
allowed.

All of the aforementioned disciplinary guidelines will be provided to each


delegate and the accompanying faculty member(s) of each institution
before the event.

Registration Details
Registration Procedure: All teams will be required to register using the
online registration portal on the event’s website. All institutions will be
required to register their teams at least two weeks prior to the event.

The registration form will require the delegates to fill the following details:

Name of student
Institution
Phone number
Email
Picture of student (for identification and security purposes)
Smart Card Number
Category each team member will participate in.

Payment: All teams will be required to submit their payments along with the
aforementioned forms to ensure participation. The payment details are as
follows:

Delegation Fee:
Participation in 1 or 2 wings within the event: Rs. 2000
Participation in 3 or 4 wings within the event: Rs. 4000

Delegate Fee:
Rs. 2500 per delegate

Mode of Payment: For Outstations Teams and local teams a Bank Draft is
acceptable. Bank transfers to the school account will also be acceptable.
No in-person cash payments will be accepted.

For participation in each wing a minimum of 3 and maximum of 8


delegates are required per team.
Accordingly, a team taking part in 2 wings of the event will have a
maximum team cap of 16 and a minimum of 7 team members.
A team member participating in a particular wing will not be able to
partake in another wing's event.

Note: There will separate best delegate awards for each of the 4 wings.
