INTRODUCTION
Welcome to Intergalactic Space Trader or IST. Work your way
through this book first, then book 2 and 3. The rules are
explained as you go. There are thousands of planets in the
Intergalactic Trade Network or the ITN. They have all signed
up to the Trade Agreement, paid a tax to help maintain the
network and have a System Gate installed in their star system
which gives access to their main trading planet. These are
your destination planets, worlds you have never visited
before, home to space ports where you will trade your goods.
Your Trade Planets Index is a log of all the planets you have
scanned to receive preliminary data. It is the first book you
access on your trip to the stars.

This book logs all the information you can establish before
you arrive at a planet. When you scan a planet on the ITN you
receive a range of information which will help you decide if
it’s the world you want to sell your goods at. If it is then head
to the system through a System Gate, fly to the planet using
your Ship Manual, open up the Planet Guide and start a
Planet Sheet once there. This will establish further details
about this new world and the price of its trade goods.

You can scan up to five worlds and select one to be the world
that you visit.

In the beginning you start with 200c, 85 Fuel, 10 Grains and


2 Flume Cells. Mark these in your Ships Manual (Book 2).

As a rule there are no decimals in the game. If you wish to use


dice you will need a d4, d6, d8, d10, d12 and a d20. If you do
roll on a table there will be a dice for the ‘x’ axis and one for
the ‘y’ axis. These vary.

SCANNING PLANETS
You are going to be gathering the following information when
scanning a new planet on the ITN. Each is called a stat and is
generated by randomly selecting or rolling an option from the
listed tables. At the back of this book are the Planet Stat
Tables, fill one out as you go. You do not have to visit this
planet but it has now been established in your Trade Planets
Index and you may visit it later. Because planets are only a
System Gate jump away, so distance between these worlds
makes no difference, it’s just knowing of their existence that
counts. When you enter the new system you will use your
Ships Manual to fly to the planet’s space port. You will
generate the following stats, listed below, for each world. If
you run out of Planet Stat Tables simply print some more.
With each table comes a small image of the planet which you
can colour or detail. Start on page 5 with the Planet name
and work on through the tables, refer to this page as you do.
Planet Name: Use the Planet Naming Table
People: Planet name plus one of the following
‘ians’, ‘ish’, ‘ans’ or ‘tons’. Your choice.

others and all are advanced enough to facilitate a working

Double the Activity result. Write this on to the Planet Stat
Table. These numbers will affect your encounters in the new
star system and the price of goods.

Or - This means the number goes down or up 1 point,


depending on the arrow direction, the second time you visit
the world and it then stays at this new total.

YOUR TRADE PLANETS INDEX
By the time you reach this page you will have filled in your
first Planet Stat Table. Generate up to 5 when leaving a
planet. It is important to remember you do not have to visit
all the planets you generate if you feel they would not be
great locations at which to sell your goods or that potentially
they could be too dangerous. But you will have to select one
at which to trade.

As you explore you will find that particular types of planets


have and sell goods for prices that are affected by their status
and that planets with high activity or instability may well be
good opportunities to grab a bargain. Sometimes the prices
of goods at a planet are hard to discern from the planet scan,
in which case you’ll just have to visit it to find out.

The higher the instability of a planet the more extreme the


prices of the trade goods that are bought and sold there. The
number in the activity stat indicates how many obstacles
there are in the system before you reach the planet. Not all
of these are bad, for instance, you can mine out asteroids but
they could also be pirates.

When you have decided on the planet you want to visit take
up your Ship Manual, book 2, and follow the instructions
therein. You will now be entering the System Gate. When
doing so you need a Flume Cell. More on this in the Ship
Manual.
