The Storm
One afternoon while riding my bike at the park,
The blue sky suddenly grew very dark.
I race home, and as I reach the front door
heavy rain began falling, thunder rumbling like a lion’s roar.
Flickering lights crushed my hope of a meal,
Since thunderstorms made my mother feel shaky and ill
She’d untie her apron and off she would flee,
so good-bye to spaghetti for father and me.

Suddenly there stood father at the door,

and I could hope for some food once more!
“I thought we could use some supper tonight,”
and he handed me a plate – I smiled with great delight!
After we ate supper, the lights came back on,
Now mother’s fears of the heavy storm was gone.
“I think,” she said, “this is the night I’ll make
our very favorite fudge chocolate cake!”
