The document discusses the database system development lifecycle and related concepts. It provides 10 questions about describing each stage of the lifecycle, discussing user views and the data relevant to each view, how to approach developing a database system for a university library by identifying user groups and key issues, comparing the three phases of database design and its relationship to ANSI SPARC architecture, how the logical data model depends on the target DBMS, when to use centralized or view integration approaches, the purpose of transaction and user interface design in application design, using a bottom up approach to identify data objects and attributes for a new business, and whether to develop a prototype for a supermarket database system and why.

DIM1 Database System Development Life cycle (DSDLC)
Deadline: Tuesday 2nd November, 2021 (25 Marks) Read through the pdf Database System Development Life Cycle (DSDLC) notes and individually attempt the questions below: 1. Describe the main purpose(s) and activities associated with each stage of the database system development lifecycle. 2. Discuss what a user view represents in the context of a database system. (In your discussion, use an example of a database system you are familiar with and identify the different user views plus the data which is relevant to each user view mentioned. NOTE: Do not use MUELE example or any other associated system we have been discussing in class). 3. Assume you have been contracted to develop a database system for a university library. You are required to use a systems development lifecycle approach. Discuss how you are going to approach the project. Describe the various user groups that will be involved during the requirement analysis. What are the key issues that need to be answered during fact finding? 4. Compare and contrast the three phases of database design. 5. Use the diagram below to discuss the relationship between database design and 3 level ANSI SPARC Architecture.
6. The logical data model is dependent on the target DBMS. Discuss
7. How do we decide whether to use the centralized or view integration approach, or a combination of both to manage multiple user views? 8. Application design involves transaction design and user interface design. Describe the purpose and main activities associated with each. 9. Assume you are starting up a new business and you would like to use the database approach to manage the data. Use the bottom up abroach to identify the data objects, data object attributes and the relationships in between these identified data objects. 10. If u were developing a database for a supermarket, would you consider first developing a prototype? Why or why not?
