Abstract

1. Helping local school to achieve good result and enhance their enrolment in Higher
Education

Education is the most important and every child has the equal right to get the better
educational knowledge! The education is vast poor in government schools as we compare with
the private schools. I want to make a point is that by bringing some changes in schools! Why
only the poor background family children must go for govt education. All the private schools
should be govt affiliated! It’s imperative, therefore, that you produce good notes from each of
classes and from the books that use – notes that you can read, that are useful, and that are
logically organised. By this all the children get the equal education and the state will get highly
developed! If the state become strong in education then automatically the whole nation will get
developed. Later by this idea with their enrollmennt to higher education it leads countries
literacy rate.

2. Developing and managing efficient garbage disposable system

Solid Waste Management Solid Waste Management: Systematic well planned and well
managed control on generation, collection, storage, transport, source separation, processing,
treatment, recovery and disposal of solid waste. Resource recovery is the selective extraction
of disposed materials for a specific next use, such as recycling, composting or energy
generation. The aim of the resource recovery is to extract the maximum practical benefits from
products. Organic Waste Disposal has Composite Pit. Vermi Compost is a rich organic medium
consisting of nutrients, plant growth promoting substances, and beneficial micro organisms
necessary for plant growth. – It is made from agricultural waste and the use of earthworms. –
By using a layered process over a period of time, an organic medium is derived that reduces
the need for large amounts of pesticides and even fertilizers.

3. Contribution to Swachh Bharat national level initiative of Government of India

Swachh Survekshan is a ranking exercise taken up by the Government of India to assess

rural and urban areas for their levels of cleanliness and active implementation of Swachhata
mission initiatives in a timely and innovative manner. Swachh Bharat Abhiyan has become a
‘Jan Andolan’ receiving tremendous support from the people. Citizens too have turned out in
large numbers and pledged for a neat and cleaner India. The major objective of the Swachh
Bharat Abhiyan is to spread the awareness of cleanliness and the importance of it. Taking the
broom to sweep the streets, cleaning up the garbage, focussing on sanitation and maintaining a
hygienic environment have become a practice after the launch of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.
Now we have started to take part and are helping spread the message of ‘Cleanliness is next to
Godliness’.

Activity Report

1. Introduction to Activity 1
Helping local school to achieve good result and enhance their enrolment in Higher
Education

1.1 Objective

Get them to do their own research about learning, building focus and improving
memory. There are loads of useful resources online that will help them. Ask them to share their
findings with you. Help them create and stick to a daily study habit in an environment as free
from distractions as possible. Increase team assignments, encourage and reward teamwork,
especially where 'mixed' teams have helped weak students improve. Asked them to prepare
charts and review these collectively with the students, selecting the most useful to display in
the classroom. After the completion of grade 10 giving them suggestions about the higher and
technical education.

1.2 Description

The first step is to work out the reasons why they may be underperforming, and the
next step is to work out how to tackle the problem to form an improvement plan to help them
to achieve the grades that they are capable of achieving to their good results by following:

1. Adopt a positive mental attitude

I suggested them the first step on the road to improving their grades is to turn this
negativity on its head. You need to be positive about the situation if you’re to stand a chance
of improving it. Acknowledge that your grades aren’t what you’re aiming for, but believe that
you can do something about it. Start by mentally taking control of the situation: instead of
thinking Don’t give up – take positive steps towards achieving the improvement you’re more
than capable of achieving.

2. Talk to your teachers

Your teachers know you best, so it’s worth talking to them when you’re drawing up a
plan of action for improving your grades. Ask them where they think you need to improve, and
they’ll probably have some advice on how you can go about it. Coupled with the advice in the
rest of this article, this should allow you to tailor an action plan to your personal situation.

3. Pay more attention in class – and ask questions

If you’re prone to daydreaming in class, it’s time to start focusing on the here and now.
Listen to what the teacher is saying rather than talking with friends or allowing your mind to
wander. Don’t simply copy down what’s on the board without thinking about it; make sure
you’ve understood it, make neat notes so that you can understand them when you come back
to them (more on that later), and don’t be afraid to speak up if there’s something you don’t

Dept. of EEE, VVIET, Mysore Page 1

Activity Report

understand or want clarifying. It’s much easier to ask a teacher to explain something differently
than it is to trawl through books trying to find a clearer explanation for yourself, and they won’t
think less of you for asking.

4. Improve your essay-writing skills

Another common reason for academic underperformance is that the student’s

essaywriting skills aren’t sufficient for the level required to achieve top grades. This is fairly
easily fixed by improving your essay-writing technique. Good essay technique covers all
aspects of essay-writing, from the research phase to the final proofread, and even how you
respond to the feedback you get for your essays. Responding in the right way to feedback –
and not taking criticism personally – will be particularly useful if you feel you’re
underperforming, as this should give you the guidance you need to be able to improve.

5. Find the right learning style for you

If you’re academically underperforming, another possible reason could be that you

haven’t found the right learning style for you. We’re all different, and each of us has our own
way of studying that yields the best results. Perhaps you just haven’t found your most effective
studying style yet. If you’ve been trying to work on your own, for example, you might find it
easier to work with a friend or two, so that you have someone else there to motivate you.

6. Improve your memory and INNOVATION

Many students struggle to remember all the information they need for exams, and this
brings their grades down. With so much to learn across many subjects, remembering facts,
figures and arguments is a pretty monumental task, and you need to arm yourself with some
effective memory aids to help you. And gave more suggestions on improving their memory
techniques for exam preparation.

2. Introduction to Activity 2
Developing and managing efficient garbage disposable system

2.1 Objective

To ensure the protection of the environment through effective waste management

measures. To protect the health and wellbeing of people by providing an affordable waste
collection service. Stabilise quantity of waste disposed to landfill then reduce this volume
Improve landfill management to comply with legislation Increase thermal treatment and
conversion of waste to energy. The purpose of the Waste Act is to support sustainable
development by promoting the rational use of natural resources, and preventing and combating
the hazard and harm to health and the environment arising from wastes Develop national and
local awareness campaigns on the social importance of waste management Promote waste
minimization and recycling through education system Establish an equivalent to the “Blue
Drop” award for waste management by municipalities.

2.2 Description

Waste can be solid, liquid, or gaseous and each type has different methods of disposal
and management. Waste management deals with all types of waste, including industrial,
biological, household, municipal, organic, biomedical, radioactive wastes. In some cases,
waste can pose a threat to human health. Health issues are associated throughout the entire
process of waste management. Health issues can also arise indirectly or directly. Directly,
through the handling of solid waste, and indirectly through the consumption of water, soil and
food. Waste is produced by human activity, for example, the extraction and processing of raw
materials. Waste management is intended to reduce adverse effects of waste on human health,
the environment, planetary resources and aesthetics.

The separation of wet waste and dry waste. The purpose is to recycle dry waste easily
and to use wet waste as compost. When segregating waste, the amount of waste that gets
landfilled reduces considerably, resulting in lower levels of air and water pollution.
Importantly, waste segregation should be based on the type of waste and the most appropriate
treatment and disposal. This also makes it easier to apply different processes to the waste, like

Dept. of EEE, VVIET, Mysore Page 6

Activity Report

composting, recycling and incineration. It is important to practice waste management and

segregation as a community. One way to practice waste management is to ensure there is
awareness. The process of waste segregation should be explained to the community.

Segregated waste is also often cheaper to dispose of because it does not require as much
manual sorting as mixed waste. There are a number of important reasons why waste segregation
is important such as legal obligations, cost savings and protection of human health and the
environment. Institutions should make it as easy as possible for their staff to correctly segregate
their waste. This can include labelling, making sure there are enough accessible bins and clearly
indicating why segregation is so important. Labeling is especially important when dealing with
nuclear waste due to how much harm to human health the excess products of the nuclear cycle
can cause.

Fig 2.2.1: Garbage disposal system

Dept. of EEE, VVIET, Mysore Page 7

Activity Report

Common types of household wastes that can be segregated are:

Liquid Waste

Liquid waste that is commonly found in the household includes trapped

rainwater, but can also refer to detergents and other liquid chemicals. These examples
are classified into either point or non-point waste. Manufactured liquid waste like liquid
detergents and pesticides are classified as point source waste. In contrast, natural liquid
waste like rainwater, organic liquids are classified as non-point source waste.

Recyclable waste

Recyclable household waste will include a variety of items and are commonly
broken down into the following types:

o Plastic waste –

Recyclable plastic waste contains containers, jars, toys, bottles, and many
other products. Since plastic is not biodegradable, they need to be separated from
regular waste. These items should be carefully sorted and placed in the household
recycling bin or sent to the waste recycling service for proper disposal.

o Paper/card waste –

Paper waste like old newspapers, magazines, different packaging materials,

cardboard is also biodegradable, so it can also be used in compost.

o Ceramics and glass –

All kinds of ceramics and glass items are 100% recyclable, as long as they’re
not broken or cracked. Depending on the condition of the item, you may also want
to consider donating them when you can safely.

Dept. of EEE, VVIET, Mysore Page 8

Activity Report

Organic Waste

Organic waste is the most common type of household waste. All food waste,
green or garden waste, lawn clippings, meat, and non-hazardous wood waste are
classified as organic waste and can be disposed of or used to start a compost. Organic
waste should be kept separate from recycling and landfills, using the green kerbside
bins instead.

Hazardous Waste

Hazardous household waste includes all kinds of toxic, flammable reactive and
corrosive waste materials, including old paints, batteries, bulbs, light fixtures, ink,
metals, different cleaning agents, toxic chemicals, pesticides, fertilisers, and herbicides.
To safely dispose of these waste items, check what drop off locations are available
through your local council.

E-waste

Electronic waste or e-waste is becoming one of the most significant contributors

to household waste, with all electrical appliances- from broken fridges to TVs, to old
power boards and cords and even items like laptops, mobile phones, and keyboards. To
dispose of the e-waste, you can look to sell or donate items following social distancing
regulations or look for council certified e-waste drop off points.

Activity Report

2.3 Outcome
To achieve financial sustainability, socio-economic and environmental goals in the field
of waste management, there is a need to systematically analyze the strengths and weaknesses
of the community as well as the municipal corporation, based on which an effective waste
management system can be evolved with the participation of various stakeholders in India. The
public apathy can be altered by awareness building campaigns and educational measures.
Sensitization of the community is also essential to achieve the above objectives and we need
to act and act fast as every city in India is already a hotbed of many contagious diseases, most
of which are caused by ineffective waste management.

Adoption of newer technologies related to recycling and other waste management

options but we can play a very important role in this process if we can adopt only few tips.
Here are a few tips to achieve this goal.

Keep ourself informed: It is important that we are in the know about what is happening on
the environment front. Read about how untreated sewage is thrown into the rivers, attend public
lectures about air pollution, & keep in touch with new policies that affect our environment. The
more informed we are, the better equipped we are to fight such issues.

Consume less: Motto: Refuse…..Reduce….Reuse… Recycle .This means consuming fewer

resources, reusing whatever we can and finally recycling what cannot be reused. This process
greatly reduces the garbage.

Say ‘No’ to plastic bags: One of the biggest sources of pollution in Indian cities is the
ubiquitous plastic bag. Refuse to accept one. Instead, carry a cloth shopping bag with us.

Separate our garbage: India has one of the world’s most efficient recycling mechanisms. Use
the service of our raddiwalla. Newspapers, bottle cans and other such recyclables can fetch us
money and in the process we can help to save the environment. Rag pickers, too, perform a
vital function for the city. Kitchen garbage (biodegradable) should be separated from non-
biodegradable waste.

Compost our organic waste: Start a vermiculture bin. We can convince our neighbors to start
a vermiculture bin also to produce manure.

Stop burning garbage: Ask our neighbors to desist from burning solid wastes. It may seem
harmless but smoke emitted from leaves contributes to air pollution. Also, when there is plastic
in the heap, it emits dangerous toxic fumes. Leaves can be converted to fertilizer through
composting & plastic can be recycled.

Activity Report

3. Introduction to Activity 3

Contribution to Swachh Bharat national level initiative of Government of India

3.1 Objective

Swachh Bharat Abhiyan is such an initiative, in which the participation for every
individual is equally and very important. Although the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan needs the
cooperation of every Indian yet the co-operation of the students of India plays the most
important role in making the campaign truly successful. The role of students shall bring about
behavioral changes in public and encourage healthy practices, spreading awareness and
strengthening the cleanliness systems. Clean India also brings forth changes concerning
investments by foreign countries leading to the economic development of our country and its
growth. Under the Swachh Bharat initiative, massive door-to-door garbage collection and
disposal activities were initiated. This helped in addressing the problem of garbage disposal.

3.2 Description

The students from rural areas strongly need the awareness about the healthy habits that
is why the authorities and responsible teachers should regularly teach students about the healthy
habits and their benefits. Usually Rural areas use dustbin almost nowhere which is the biggest
reason for the cleanliness campaign to be operated in these areas. Students should have a habit
of using dustbin in schools as well as at the houses and should also ask their parents to use it.
The educational authorities should step ahead to make a new rule under which there would be
a mandatory class for every student in which they would be taught about the cleanliness, the
benefits of cleanliness and the losses that meet due to lack of it. The authority should also
ensure the presence of every student in that class. The students should be taught the healthy
habits of sanitation and hygiene like brushing teeth twice a day, bathing regularly, cutting of
nails regularly, washing hands before having meals, avoid eating unhealthy and stale food etc.

The Students should also conduct several cleanliness drives in guidance of their teachers
like cleaning of their class, school, mess, play-grounds and surrounding areas of their School.

Dept. of EEE, VVIET, Mysore Page 13

Activity Report

By keeping cleanliness in and around the School, students can convey a deep message to
the society and I am very sure that it will not fail in making other people realizing the value of
cleanliness and indulging other in the campaign.

Swachh Bharat Mission needs to be a social mission. It touches the life of every Indian
and calls for every ones participation. There can be no better ambassadors of such a nobel cause
than students.

In terms of planning for student involvement, I think this might be feasible:

• Undergraduate students in colleges can take up the main role in their respective
localities to organize school going students in their locality

• This team of college and school going students can then generate some funds through
collection. We already do to for Ganesh Chaturthi, Durga Pooja and New year
celebration etc. I think people will start contributing as their awareness is growing.

• Then, based on the monetary collection and students can start cleanliness drive every 2
weeks. Its important that if they create a mechanism to manage waste, its maintained
as well in long run by proper delegation of responsibilities.

• Students will graduate to be working professionals. Hence, its important that they pass
on their responsibilities to younger ones by sharing their experiences on Swacha Bharat
Mission.

• As the students will get involved, this mission’s core idea will start reaching every
home and transform our country as a whole.

3.3 Outcome

This mission was to clean India and remove its dirt and dust. India at that time became
very much unhygienic and garbage was thrown here and there by people. So, this mission was
a need for this country. Its conclusion was this that - due to this people understood the
importance of hygiene. The cleanliness campaign has seen improvement in the living standards
of Indian citizens along with spreading awareness about defecation, cleanliness etc.

This campaign has had the effect that every person from every corner of the country is
participating in it, due to which the country is starting to be clearer than before. If all citizens
keep making similar efforts, then the goal of complete clean India will be achieved soon.
