A) CHAPTER 5

1.Describe system boards including sockets, chips, chip carriers, slots,

and bus lines
System Board also known as the main board or motherboard, it controls communication for the entire
computer system. All components and devices connect to the system board.

Data path and traffic monitor. It allows various components to communication efficiently with one
another.

Sockets and Chips

The system board contains a variety of electronic components .

Sockets is the connection point for chips.

Chips is a tiny circuit boards etched onto squares of silicon. It also called silicon chip, semiconductor, or
integrated circuit. It mounted on chip carriers.

Slots and Bus Lines

Additional system board components:

Slots provide a connection point for specialized cards or circuit boards. It provide expansion capabilities
for the computer.

Bus lines connecting lines that provide pathways to support communication among electronic
components.

chip carrier is one of several kinds of surface-mount technology packages for integrated circuits
(commonly called "chips"). Connections are made on all four edges of a square package; compared to
the internal cavity for mounting the integrated circuit, the package overall size is large.

2. Describe bus line, bus width, system bus, and expansion

Bus Lines/Bus Connect parts of the CPU to each other and various other components on the system
board. It is a athway for bits representing data and instructions.

Bus width is a number of bits that can travel simultaneously down a bus.

Architecture and design are tied to the speed and power for the computer.

Two basic categories of buses.

• System bus – connects CPU to memory.

• Expansion bus – connects CPU to other components.

Principle types:

Universal Serial Bus (USB).

• Connects external USB devices onto the USB bus.

FireWire.

• Primarily used to connect audio and video equipment to

the system board.

PCI Express (PCIe).

• Single dedicated path for each connected device.

B) CHAPTER 6

3. Describe the features and different types of monitors and printers

Monitors are known as screens or display screens, and present visual images of text and graphics.

The features of monitors are:

• Clarity.

• Resolution/pixels.

• Dot pitch.

• Contrast ratios.

• Active display area, or

size.

• Aspect ratio.

Monitor Types

Firstly, Flat-panel monitors. It requires less power to operate plus it was portable and thin. Then, most
are backlit.

There are three types:

• Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) which is older monitors.

• Light Emitting Diode (LED) which more advanced backlighting.

• Organic Light Emitting Diode (OLED) which has thin layer organic compound that produces light.
There are also other monitor types:

First, Digital/interactive whiteboards. It connects to a computer or project. It also controlled using a

special pen or even your finger. Besides, classrooms and corporate boardrooms.

Second, Flexible Screens. It allows a digital device to display on a non-flat surface, including wrapped
edges and curved monitors and foldable screens.

Third,Digital Projector. It projects the images from a traditional monitor onto a screen or wall.

Printers

Printers translates information that has been processed by the system unit.

There are many features of printers :

• Resolution.

• Color.

• Speed.

• Memory.

• Duplex printing.

• Connectivity

Printer Types

Firstly, Ink-jet printers spray ink at a high speed. It is reliable, quiet and inexpensive.

Secondly, laser printers use a laser light beam to produce images. It is fast, excellent quality. It is also can
be personal or shared.

Thirdly, 3D Printers create 3-D shapes with a thin layer of material repeatedly until created. It is Additive
manufacturing.

There are also other printers which is:

Cloud printers. It connect to the Internet to provide services to others on the Internet. It is thermal
printers and it is plotters.

C) CHAPTER 7

4. Discuss hard disks performance enhancement techniques

Hard disks performance enhancement techniques:

There are four techniques which are disk caching, RAID, file compression and file decompression.
Disk caching is about users cache and anticipates data needs. Then, RAID is linked, inexpensive hard-disk
drives. Next, file compression is reduces file size. Lastly, file decompression which expands compressed
files.

5. Describe the organizational cloud storage and storage area network

systems.
Organizational cloud storage. The Internet acts as a “cloud” of servers. An applications provided as a
service rather than a product. It supplied by servers that provide cloud storage or online storage.

Storage Area Network (SAN) Architecture to link remote computer storage devices. User’s computer
provides file system, but SAN provides disk space. House data in remote locations and still allow efficient
and secure access.
