Problem Statment

This document outlines the design of a fixed bed reactor to produce maleic anhydride from benzene with 90% conversion. It specifies the operating conditions, kinetics, and material balances. The problem is modeled as a continuous, heterogeneous, fixed bed reactor system. Assumptions are made to simplify the model. Material and energy balances are written and solved using Polymath software to determine the reactor volume and outlet conditions, achieving close to the desired conversion and temperature with a single reactor. Some corrections may be needed such as using multiple reactors or adjusting assumptions.

Summary
The Reactor in this Project is Fixed Bed Reactor ( FBR ) and it operation at Continuous system . and Heterogeneous (Solid gas ) Phases and we take some assumption at run - operating at study state and the reactor is adiabatic - negligible heat resistance between the pellets and gas - axial dispersion is negligible due to the high gas velocities - the thermal and concentration gradients in the radial direction are negligible - the pressure drop along the reactor is negligible - we take the heat of reaction from heat formation of component at 25oC add transfer this heat to T by integration heat capacity of component (with out maleic anhydride only in integration ).

at run

V = 16381.36 m3

T = 1138.85 K

X = 0.91

That run is satisfactory because it achieved close temp. out for reactor ( 900 oC = 1173 K) and we need series reactor for correction volume reactor or change of some assumption.
