Use 3 strands of the cotton floss to stitch the Victorian step pattern over the trame’
lines. It doesn’t matter which color you begin with, and I recommend stitching with 2
needles. Stitch with one color (shown in dark gray), beginning in the upper left corner,
and work diagonally down to the lower right corner. Then stitch with the other color
(shown in white), again beginning in the upper left corner and stitching down to the
lower right corner. After the first rows with each corner have been stitched, you can
stitch up or down, because the pattern has been established.

In the area below the Victorian step section, first

stitch Rhodes diamonds in the area with the silk me-
tallic braid, shown in Diagram 6.

After stitching the Rhodes diamonds, stitch the Hun-

garian diamonds around the Rhodes diamonds with 4
strands of the cotton floss, illustrated in Diagram 7.

of the hand painted cotton for the top waffle stitch, and the bottom waffle stitch. Be-
gin with the silk metallic braid for the middle waffle stitch. Stitch as shown in Diagram
13. The last stitch, stitch 30, slides under stitch 27 before ending.
