3.4.1.4 Service Incentives Leave (Vacation, Sick, Maternity, Paternity)

Vacation Leave- Philippine employees are legally entitled to 5 days of paid ‘service incentive
leave’, which can be used for vacation or sick leave. However, we typically see good employers
offering 15 days of paid vacation and 15 days of paid sick leave for most professional level
positions in the Philippines. There are no rulings for carryover, and that aspect of the vacation
policy is left to the discretion of the employer. IT should also be noted that untracked / unlimited
PTO is extremely rare in the Philippines and brings with it some significant challenges.
Sick Leave- There is no statutory sick leave above what is mentioned above in The Philippines.
That being said, employee contracts, company policy, and collective bargaining agreements
often include sick leave benefits. An employee who has paid at least three monthly Social
Security contributions in the 12 month period prior to the illness or injury, is confined for more
than three days in a hospital or elsewhere, and has the approval of the SSS, is entitled to be paid
by hisemployer at 90% of his average daily salary per day of confinement, but only after all sick
leave with pay due from the employer has been exhausted. The employer is entitled to 100%
reimbursement from SSS. The employee must submit directly to SS to receive reimbursement.

Maternity Leave- Female workers who have contributed to Social Security for at least 3 months
of the prior 12 months are eligible for 60 days of paid leave at their daily salary rate for the first
four pregnancies. 78 days of paid leave is provided for caesarian deliveries. A female member of
the Social Security System(SSS) who has paid at least 3 monthly contributions in the twelve-
month period immediately preceding the semester of her childbirth or miscarriage shall be paid a
daily maternity benefit equivalent to 100% of her average daily salary. The benefit is for 60 days
for normal delivery and 78 days for caesarian delivery for the first four deliveries an
miscarriages.

Paternity Leave- Married male employees are eligible for seven days of paid paternity leave for
their first four children, as long as they live in the same household. Leave must be taken within
60 days of the birth. Employer pays the employee at time of the leave, and they then submit for
reimbursement to the SSS.

3.4.1.5 Wages

15 Days Monthly
Marketing Php 5,000 Php 10,000
Production Php 5,000 Php 10,000
Financial Php 5,000 Php 10,000
Staff Php 4,000 Php 8,000

3.4.1.6 Payment of Wages

They received their payment through cash and the place of payment is at the financial office. It
will be given atleast twice a month at intervals not exceeding sixteen days.

3.4.2 Health, Safety and Welfare Benefits

A. Mealtime
We decided to give a 30 minutes break in morning from 8:30 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. to regain
their energy due to the early opening. And 1 hour lunch break from 11:30 a.m. to
12:30p.m.
B. SSS and Pagibig
The Social Security System (SSS; Filipino: Paseguruhan ng Kapanatagang Panlipunan) is
a state-run, social insurance program in the Philippines to workers in the private,
professional and informal sectors. SSS is established by virtue of Republic Act No. 1161,
better known as the Social Security Act of 1954. This law was later amended by Republic
Act No. 8282 in 1997. Government employees, meanwhile, are covered under a separate
state-pension fund by the Government Service Insurance System (GSIS).-SSS is an
insurance program mandated by the government to all income earners or workers in the
company. In exchange for the said monthly contributions, members will enjoy insurance
benefits such as sickness, maternity, disability, retirement, death and funeral and salary
loan. The Home Development Mutual Fund (abbreviated as HDMF), more popularly
known as the Pag-IBIG Fund, is a Philippine government-owned and controlled
corporation under the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development
responsible for the administration of the national savings program and affordable shelter
financing for Filipinos employed by local and foreign-based employers as well as
voluntary and self-employed members. It offers its members short-term loans and access
to housing programs.-PAG-IBIG Fund has been known to provide housing loans to
members. This enables them to have enough money to pay for their dream house. The
purpose of a PAG IBIG Loan is to provide financial assistance to members who need
livelihood, medical and even educational assistance.

C. 13th Month Pay

Filipino law requires that the extra pay be given no later than December 24th, however, it
isstrongly recommended that the 13th month salary be paid as early in December as
possible.Culturally, the Christmas holiday is very important to Filipinos and the 13th
month pay istypically used to buy Christmas gifts. The earlier in December an employer
can provide 13thmonth pay for its Filipino employees, the more the employees will
appreciate it. Not usual, but sometimes this is given ½ in June. This is a small bonus to
cover employees’ children’sschool fees are due at the start of the school year (June)
D. Phil Health Insurance
The Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (Phil Health) was created in 1995 to
implement universal health coverage in the Philippines. It is a tax-exempt, government-
owned and controlled corporation (GOCC) of the Philippines, and is attached to the
Department of Health. Its stated goal is to "ensure a sustainable national health insurance
program for all", according to the company. In 2010, it claimed to have achieved
"universal" coverage at 86% of thepopulation, although the 2008 National Demographic
Health Survey showed that only 38 percent of respondents were aware of at least one
household member being enrolled in Phil Health. Nevertheless, this social insurance
program provides a means for the healthy to pay for the care of the sick and for those
who can afford medical care to subsidize those who cannot. Both local and national
governments allocate funds to subsidize the indigent.-Phil Health is around to provide
healthcare benefits to all worker members. Its main goalis to ensure the health of every
employee through social health insurance regardless of social status: poor, rich, young,
old, sick, healthy, working or jobless.
