Hypothesis: (Write an If...Then statement to describe how the IV and DV are related to each other and
explain.)

Variables: (List the factors that can change during the experiment.)

Independent Variable (IV): (List the variable that you plan to modify at the start of the investigation.)

Metric Units (if any):

Dependent Variable (DV): (List the variable that you plan to measure during the investigation.)

Metric Units (if any):

Constants: (List the variables that must be kept the same during the investigation to ensure a fair test.)

(6)
Materials: (List all materials with exact quantities. Be sure to include all safety equipment, where
necessary.)

Wiffle ball x 1 Timer (seconds)

Golf Ball x 1 1 m Ruler
Ping Pong ball x 1 Recording device (phone/iPad)

Procedure: (Write step-by-step directions. Each step must begin with a verb. Include steps for multiple
trials.)

2. Hold each ball at the selected height (1m). OR hold all balls at the same height (1m) and
then drop simultaneously. Be sure to include this in your discussion (Analysis and
Evaluation)
4. One member of group times the fall (using a stopwatch) while another member drops the
ball. Record each drop – this is to ensure the accuracy of timing and also to slow down the
fall to inspect if the balls drop at the same rate.

6. Repeat for all balls – conducting three trials each.

8. Record results in the table. Determine the average – show calculations in space provided.

10. Represent results in graph.

Data Table: (Create a blank table to record the data. Be sure to include the headers and units,
where needed.)

(4)
Graph: (Create a graph to display patterns in the data. Bar graphs are used to compare types of
variables, line graphs are used to show change in one variable compared to another)

Heading:

10 x 10 grid

(8)

Analysis: (Discuss patterns in your data. Use data from your table or your graph to confirm the
patterns. Provide a scientific explanation for these patterns.)

(2)

3
Evaluation: (State whether your investigation a success or not. Point out specific anomalous results,
if any. Make 2-4 specific suggestions on how to improve the procedure.)

(3)

Conclusion: (Answer the original problem/hypothesis. Describe how your data supports your statement,
with values. State whether your hypothesis was supported or not. Explain the results with
scientific knowledge.)
