You may
• make a carpet using my design and even sell the carpet to make lots of money :)
• if you make the carpet, it would be great if you e-mailed me its photo and wrote a few
things about yourself, like your name and where you're from, what materials you used, the
hook size, etc...
You should
• if you make this carpet and put photos of it on your blog or a website or your Facebook
page, you should always clearly state where the design came from.
You may not
• claim this design to be yours,
• copy this design to your website or a blog (instead, provide a link to my blog or my Ravelry
account or my Facebook fanpage),
• reprint this design in a magazine or a book without asking me first and paying me for it.

My carpet has about 195 cm in diameter and weighs about 6 kilos.

To make this carpet you will need:

• approximately 1600-1700 meters of cotton string, 5 mm thick,
• a 9 mm crochet hook – it's size M or N in the US,
• about 8-9 hours of your time.

No matter what string you use, remember one important thing: the crochet hook needs to be
almost twice as thick as the string! Otherwise the carpet will come out crooked. For example, if
your string is 4 mm thick, the crochet hook should be 7 mm thick. If you use a string of smaller
thickness than mentioned above the diameter will decrease but I can't predict by how much.

I use the same kind of string they put in sweatshirts to tighten the hood. It can be washed in an
ordinary washing machine. I bought my 5 mm string a long time ago from a factory in Poland:
https://polimex.net/pl/sklep/produkt/1670-sznurki-bawelniane
but I have no idea if they are willing to ship small quantities of string overseas.

Another important thing: you should be sitting on the carpet while crocheting it. This way the
carpet will appear as if it has already been washed and blocked – because you have been ironing it
with your buttocks the whole time. If you crochet the carpet while sitting on the couch, it will
forever wobble and/or buckle. Remember, you will never be able to block it after washing because
it's just too big!

And finally – this carpet is not made in the round! It’s a spiral :) I wanted to avoid that ugly seam at
the beginning/end of the round. So remember: don’t close any round with a slip stitch!!! If you
need to know where the round ends, you can use a hair pin or a safety pin or a clothes pin to mark
the last stitch of the round. But after a while you will begin to notice the end of the round with your
eyes, I promise! I’ll give you some photos for the first 10 rounds.

I first published the diagram of this carpet on my blog in April 2022:

http://magiccarpetstudio.blogspot.com/2022/04/siedmiolistny-spiralny-dywan.html

I will use the US crochet notation throughout this tutorial:

ch – chain
dc – double crochet
dc-inc – two dc in one stitch,
dc2-tog – two dc together
dc3-tog – three dc together
dc4-tog – four dc together
hdc – half double crochet
sc – single crochet

Oh, and all ch-spaces should be skipped – I think I wrote that everywhere, but I may have forgotten
some places. So please be mindful of that!

Round #1. In the magic loop make 3 ch (they pretend to be the 1st dc) and 11 more dc – you have
12 dc altogether. Then make 2 more dc: one in the 1st ch of the pretended dc and another one in the
2nd ch of the pretended dc. You now have a spiral of 14 dc. Don’t close the round with a slip stitch!
In fact, don’t close any round in this carpet!

Round #2. Make a dc-inc in each of 14 stitches.

Round #3. Repeat 7 times: {2 ch, 4 dc}.

Round #4. Repeat 7 times: {2 ch, 1 dc in the 2ch-space, 2 ch,

4 dc}.

Round #5. Repeat 7 times: {2 ch, skip 2ch-space, 3 dc in the

lonely dc, 2 ch, skip 2ch-space, 4 dc}.

Round #6. Repeat 7 times: {2 ch, skip 2ch-space, on the 3 dc

make: dc-inc, dc, dc-inc, 2 ch, skip 2ch-space, 4 dc}.

Round #7. Repeat 7 times: {2 ch, skip 2ch-space, 5 dc, 2 ch,

skip 2ch-space, 2 dc, 2 ch, 2 dc}.

By the way, I would publish much more patterns if you all just learned to read crochet diagrams ;)
I’ve got tons of patterns with diagrams only. It takes me more than a week to produce a decent
PDF file with written instructions for the pattern. And it only takes one hour to draw the diagram!!!
It takes about 15 minutes to watch a youtube tutorial on reading crochet diagrams. And if you knew
how to read diagrams, you could make every pattern from around the world without knowing the
language! These two diagrams are read from the bottom right corner:

If you make the Flower Power Carpet please send me its photo with some details about yourself,
like your name and where you're from. I'm curious to know how far my designs travel :)
