Digital Lock

This document describes a student project to design and build a digital lock. It provides details on the objectives, components, circuit design, and testing procedures for the digital lock. The digital lock will use logic gates, LEDs, buttons and a power supply to compare a preset code to an input code and indicate whether the lock is locked or unlocked.

37 40 44
OBJECTIVES:
 To design and implement digital lock for security purposes.
 When we implement correct password then green light turns on.
 When we implement wrong password then red light turns on.

EQUIPMENTS:
 LEDs (Red and Green)
 Connecting wires
 Logic gates/IC : XOR (7486), NOR (7402)
 Bread board
 Dip Switches
 Resistors: (2 resistors of 220 ohm and 9 resistors of 10k ohm)
 Battery
 Diodes (1N4007)

INTRODUCTION:
In an increasingly digital world, the need for robust security measures has become paramount. One such technology is the Digital Lock System,
which offers advanced security features and eliminates the need for physical keys. This project aims to introduce a Digital Lock System in the
Department of Locks and Keys (DLD) to enhance security and convenience for its stakeholders.

COMPONENTS USED:
The following components are crucial for constructing the digital lock:

- WIRES:
Wires serve as the primary medium for interconnecting various components, facilitating the flow of electrical signals.

- BREAD BOARD:
The breadboard provides a convenient platform for prototyping and connecting the electronic components securely.

- XOR GATE:
XOR gates are employed to compare the entered code with the preset code, allowing for code verification.

- RESISTOR:
Resistors are utilized for current limiting to protect the LEDs, diodes, and other components from excessive current flow.

- NOR GATE:
NOR gates control the lock mechanism based on the comparison results, determining whether the lock should be locked or unlocked.

- BUTTONS:
Buttons allow users to input the code and initiate the code comparison process.

- LEDs:
LEDs serve as visual indicators, displaying the lock's status by illuminating to indicate whether the lock is locked or unlocked.

- DIODES:
Diodes are essential for circuit protection, preventing reverse current flow and ensuring proper directionality of current within the
circuit.

OVERVIEW OF THE DIGITAL LOGIC PROJECT:

The Digital Lock Project in DLD involves the implementation of state-of-the-art digital lock systems across various access points within the
department's premises. This innovative solution will replace the conventional lock and key mechanism with advanced digital technologies such as
biometric recognition, electronic key cards, and password-based entry systems. The project aims to revolutionize the way security is managed in
DLD, ensuring only authorized individuals can access restricted areas.
PROCEDURE:
The following comprehensive steps outline the process of implementing the digital lock:

Step 1: Begin by connecting the power supply to the breadboard, ensuring all components receive the required voltage.

Step 2: Configure the XOR gates to compare the entered code with the preset code. Connect the XOR gates to the logic states responsible for
storing and comparing the code.

Step 3: Connect the NOR gates to control the lock mechanism. Based on the comparison results, the NOR gates determine whether the lock
should be locked or unlocked.

Step 4: Connect the buttons to the circuit, allowing users to input the code. Implement the necessary wiring and logic to detect button presses
and store the entered code in the logic states.

Step 5: Connect the logic states to store and compare the entered code with the preset code. Configure the logic states to respond to button
inputs and compare the entered code with the stored code.

Step 6: Connect the LEDs to indicate the lock's status. Based on the output of the NOR gates, the LEDs will illuminate to display whether the lock
is locked or unlocked.

Step 7: Incorporate diodes into the circuit for protection and to ensure proper current flow. Place diodes strategically to prevent reverse current
flow and protect components from potential damage. Add resistors to ensure the protection of components, proper signal Levels, and accurate
operation of the circuit, contributing to the overall reliability and functionality of the digital lock.

Step 8: Test the circuit for functionality. Verify that the lock accurately compares the entered code with the preset code and correctly indicates
the lock's status on the LEDs. Ensure that the diodes effectively protect the circuit and that all components are functioning correctly.
Truth table:
ABCD EFGH RED LED GREEN LED
USER INPUT PRESET
4 bit code If input =preset 0 1
If input != preset 1 0

CONCLUSION:
The Digital Lock Project in DLD represents a significant step forward in enhancing security and convenience within the department. By
implementing advanced digital lock systems, DLD will achieve a higher level of security, streamline access control management, and improve
overall operational efficiency. This project sets the foundation for a more secure and technologically advanced future in DLD's security
infrastructure.
