The documentary states the company's data handling practices, its role in the
dissemination of hate speech and misleading information, and its impact on
individuals' mental health and overall well-being. It also highlights the larger
implications for democracy and society, as well as government efforts to hold
Facebook accountable.
I learned about several kinds of ethical issues with Facebook from the video that
was shown, such as algorithmic prejudice, data privacy, and the platform's effect on
democracy. They demonstrate how Facebook's algorithms have the power to
reinforce prejudices and echo chambers, which can promote polarization and the
dissemination of false information. Furthermore, revelations regarding Facebook's
widespread data collection methods prompt worries about user privacy and the
improper sharing of private data. The documentary go over Facebook's use of
targeted advertising and political manipulation to manipulate public opinion,
influence elections, and weaken democratic processes. They also discuss the
negative effects social media, particularly Facebook, has on mental health,
especially for vulnerable populations like teenagers. Regulatory obstacles,
corporate accountability, and the necessity of public lobbying and awareness
raising to hold Facebook responsible for its activities are also discussed,
underscoring the necessity of significant reforms to address systemic problems with
digital platforms.
The ideas I've gained from these videos, as a marketing student, are extremely
applicable to both my personal and academic endeavors. In my studies, evaluating
current problems and suggesting solutions requires an awareness of the ethical,
social, and political ramifications of technology and digital platforms. I may get a
critical grasp of the points where technology, ethics, and society converge by using
the ideas from "The Facebook Dilemma" to my academic work.

The documentaries make me think about my own digital practices and social
media consumption in general. By becoming more aware of the possible hazards
and repercussions associated with utilizing social media sites like Facebook, I can
take precautions to safeguard my privacy, interact with information critically, and
promote responsible tech usage. The documentaries also encourage me to support
policies that advance accountability, transparency, and digital literacy as an
informed and involved citizen.
