How to use a QR code
This book has QR codes on some pages.
These instructions will show you how to use these QR codes, to enjoy
the audio streaming of the recordings for the Listening activities.
What is a QR code?
A QR code is a two-dimensional barcode that can be ‘read’ using a special
FREE app on any tablet or smartphone.
How do I use the QR code?
You will find the QR code on certain pages of the book. It looks like the
one on this page. Use the QR reader app on your smartphone or tablet, QR Codes
and hold it over the QR code, lining up the corners on the screen with for the Listening Tasks
the corners of the QR code. for audio streaming
After two seconds, the reader should direct you to a webpage where the
recording for the Listening activity can be listened to, via a web-based player.
The audio recording will now be played for you to listen.
Then you can answer the questions of the activity.

LanguageCert Young Learners ESOL
Τwo English language qualifications,Fox & Owl for young learners (7+ years old).
Levels
Fox (at approximately the pre-A1 level)
Owl (at approximately the A1 level)
● The LanguageCert Young Learners ESOL are offered on-demand, all year-round exams at Approved Test
Centres Language assessment across all 4 skills (Listening, Reading, Writing, Speaking). Candidates take their
exams in any Approved Test Centre.
● Grammar Syllabus and Vocabulary Wordlists for each level are also available
● Candidates’ communicative skills are emphasised, as the exams have been developed on the basis of
age-appropriate topics.
● There are separate Written and Spoken exams, for which candidates get a different certificate.
The exams can be taken independently allowing learners to prepare and sit for one or the other examination.
● Young Learners ESOL Fox & Owl are student and teacher-friendly, requiring little specific preparation, and
including fun tasks, appropriate for young learners’ interests.
● Every child is awarded with a certificate showing a number of Foxes or Owls, based on their performance in
the skill tested.

Exam Format
WRITTEN EXAM (Duration 1 hour 15 minutes)
The “Written Exam” consists of Listening, Reading and Writing sections and is available in
Paper-based format.
Listening (15 mins)
Part 1 - 5 multiple choice questions (each with three-options)
Task: Listen and look at the pictures and choose the appropriate response.
Part 2 - 5 questions (match descriptions of people to pictures)
Task: Listen and draw lines.
Part 3 - 5 questions (fill in the gap with the correct answer)
Task: Listen and write a word or a number.
Part 4: 5 questions (fill in the gap with the correct answer)
Task: Listen and write a word or a number.
Reading & Writing (1 hour uninterrupted)
Reading
Part 1 - 6 questions (yes or no)
Task: Look at the image, read the sentences and write yes/no.
Part 2 - 5 questions (choose from 7 options to correctly fill in the gaps in the text)
Task: Choose the correct options to fill the 5 gaps in the text.
Part 3 - 6 questions (choose from 8 options to correctly fill in the gaps in the text)
Task: Choose the correct options to fill the 6 gaps in the text.
Part 4 - 8 questions (answer some questions using 1-word answers)
Task: Read a short story, read the questions, write 1-word answers.
Writing
Part 1: 4 sentences (communicate personal information)
Task: Write 4 sentences about a real situation.
Part 2: 6 sentences (describe a picture story)
Task: Look at the pictures and write 2 sentences about each picture.
Part 2 - 3 sentences (describe a simple picture)
Task: Look at the picture and write three sentences about it.
SPOKEN EXAM
The “Spoken Exam” is a short conversation with an interlocutor (Face-to-face) on topics of interest to
children, such as their family, hobbies or daily life situations.
Speaking (7 mins)
Part 1
Task: Answer simple questions in order to give personal information (name, age, hobbies etc.).
Part 2
Task: An objects card is presented by the Interlocutor and candidates are asked to identify objects
of the same type.
Part 3
Task: A “find the differences” card is presented by the Interlocutor and candidates are asked to identify
the things that are different.
Part 4
Task: A “scene card” is presented by the Interlocutor and candidates are asked to describe the picture.
