General Features

2 General Features
SecurOS WebView (referred to as "Module" throughout this document) is a software module intended
for watching live and archived video through a web browser using the HTTP protocol. The WebView
Module works with SecurOS video servers connected to the WebView Module server on the network.

2.1 Types of Configurations

The Module software is installed on a separate computer (web server) connected to the network video
servers or directly on one of the network video servers.

2.1.1 Standalone Configuration

This setup may be used for mid-sized applications. Here the server acts as a video server.
In a standalone configuration (web server is a video server) installing and configuring the WebView
Module consists of the following steps:
1. Installing JDK, Tomcat and Module software.
2. Creating and configuring Module objects in SecurOS, see Setting up Module section.

2.1.2 Server-Workstation Configuration

In this architecture, the web server and video server are physically distributed on different computers.
In a distributed configuration, installing and configuring the WebView Module consists of the
following steps:
on video server:
1. Creating and configuring Module objects in SecurOS (see Setting up Module section).
on web server:
1. Installing JDK, Tomcat and Module software.
2. Editing configuration XML file: setting video server address to connect Module (see Editing XML
File).

www.issivs.com
SecurOS WebView 9 User Guide
Deploying Module

3 Deploying Module
The system deployment procedure consists of the following steps:
1. Checking system requirements for each server and workstation of your security network.
2. Installing Module software.

3.1 Checking System Requirements

The Module has to be installed on a selected server and also on an operator workstation, where
monitoring and working with the system interface will be performed.

Installing the Module directly on a particular video server is allowed, however it imposes increased
server productivity requirements (see SecurOS Administration Guide).

3.1.1 Web Browser Requirements

The correct operation of the SecurOS WebView Module is guaranteed when using the following web
browsers:
Internet Explorer;
Mozilla;
Firefox (with limitations);
Opera (with limitations).

Note. It is recommended to install the latest available version of browsers.

3.2 Installing Server Application

This section describes the Module software installation on a SecurOS network computer.

Warning! It is necessary to install the Module’s software only on those computers where it is required to use
the Module’s functionality.

JRE (Java Runtime Environment) and Apache Tomcat web server software (in a standalone
configuration and in a server-workstation configuration for a web server) are required for the correct
operation of the Module. If one of these products is not yet installed on the computer, it will be installed
automatically during the Module installation process.

Warning!
1. If you install the Module software on the video server (in a distributed configuration) neither the JRE
(Java Runtime Environment) or Apache Tomcat web server installation is required.
2. Java Runtime Environment (JRE) application is not compatible with NOD32 anti-virus. We
recommend to disable this anti-virus or install another one.

Setting up Module

4 Setting up Module
To work with the Module, you must create and configure the following objects:
WebView Server object;
one or more WebView Monitor objects.

The procedure for creating objects is described in the SecurOS Administration Guide.

Note. To set the video server address and/or connection timeout manually use the XML file, see Editing XML
File.

It is also recommended to use the User rights object to set access levels for system objects (e.g. cameras,
PTZ devices). From the table in the object settings window, select the users of the system, which will be
assigned these rights. Define individual passwords for each of the users.

Warning! To work with cameras and PTZ devices, a user must have either Control, Configure, or Full access
rights.

To prevent problems with the mapping of the Local Language text (for example, incorrect displaying of
camera titles, if they are named in the Local Language) add a -Djava.encoding=Windows-N line to
the Tomcat properties (Java Options field, see figure 7), where N — code page number for the Local
Language.

To prevent problems of JAVA memory leaks it is possible to limit the maximum amount of memory
(RAM) used by the java virtual machine in the Apache Tomcat Properties window (the Maximum
memory pool field, see figure 7). The recommended maximum size - half of the installed RAM.

Note. The memory leak can cause a slowdown of the Module operation speed, problems with user
authorization, and problems loading the Module web page.

4.2 Editing XML File

Warning! Close the Tomcat console window before editing the Module configuration XML file.

All Module settings are contained in the following files:

C:\Program Files\Apache Software Foundation\Tomcat X.X\conf\Catalina
\localhost\webview.xml
C:\Program Files\Apache Software Foundation\Tomcat X.X\webapps\webview
\WEB-INF\web.xml

To edit these files use any XML editor supporting UTF-8 encoding.

4.2.1 Setting Video Server Address

The configuration procedure includes editing of the xml file to specify the address of the video server to
which the Module is to be connected. To do this, open the webview.xml file and define the following
parameters:
host — IP address of the video server to which the Module is to be connected (is specified in the
Network address field of the Computer object settings window);
videoServerId — identifier of the same Computer object, which has the Video Server Role within
the SecurOS security network.

Using Module

5 Using Module
This section describes the Module features and basic operations with the Module.

5.1 Specifics of the Interaction with Different Browsers

If Microsoft IE with installed ActiveX is used, bandwidth of the WebView server does not change: the
WebView server sends the video stream with same bandwidth as it was received.

When using any other browser, the WebView server transcodes the received video and sends the
mjpeg stream. In this case bandwidth can be much higher.

5.2 Configuring Browser

It is necessary to configure the web browser before working with the Module. Instructions for all
supported browser types are given below.

5.2.1 Configuring Internet Explorer Browser

Make sure this site (address of web server with Module installed, e.g. localhost) is in the list of
Exceptions in the Pop-up Blocker settings, (see Tools Pop-up Blocker Pop-up Blocker Settings),
or the Pop-up Blocker feature is completely disabled.

The Internet Explorer browser uses an ActiveX component to display video. However you can watch
video without this component if it is forbidden to download ActiveX components.

It is recommended to allow downloading it since the ActiveX component provides high image quality
and is less resource-intensive.

To permit the downloading of the ActiveX component, select the Prompt radio button in Download
unsigned ActiveX controls option (see Tools Internet Options Security Internet Custom
Level).

For more information about ActiveX installation see Starting Module section.

5.2.2 Configuring Mozilla/Firefox Browser

1. Open about:config URL in a browser.

2. Modify values of the following four parameters below:
network.http.max-connections 255;
network.http.max-connections-per-server 255;
network.http.max-persistent-connections-per-proxy 255;
network.http.max-persistent-connections-per-server 255.
3. Make sure that:

Using Module

for Mozilla: this site is in the Allowed sites list (see Tools Popup Manager), or feature is
completely disabled.
for Mozilla Firefox: this site is in the Allowed sites list (see Tools Options Content Block
Popup Windows), or feature is completely disabled.

5.2.3 Configuring Opera Browser

Make sure you have Pop-ups enabled (Open all pop-ups option is selected on Tools Preferences
General tab).

Note. To provide correct operation it is recommended to disable caching (Tools Preferences Additional
History Disk cache Clean and Disable).

5.3 Starting Module

Open a web browser.

Open http://<server>:<port>/webview/ address (where <server> is a name of the web server

with Module installed; <port> is a web server port defined during Apache Tomcat installation. The
authorization page will appear.

To choose the interface language, click the corresponding button on the authorization page toolbar
(see figure 11).

Figure 11. Authorization page

Using Module

Login with your SecurOS User Account credentials. One can also authorize as OS user registered in the
Active Directory domain, if there is the Active Directory / LDAP object created and configured in
SecurOS (see SecurOS Administration Guide).

Warning!
1. The process of user authorization runs in accordance with the SecurOS User Rights, providing a list
of allowed operations and interface appearance (access to cameras archive and PTZ controlling).
2. It is not possible to authorize as SecurOS superuser (root).

If the number of user connections exceeds what is allowed by the software license (see WebView
Server), then the following message will appear (see figure 12):

Figure 12. Exceeded number of connections message

Wait until some users log off from the system and try to log in one more time.

Note. To increase the number of concurrent users, more WebView connection licenses need to be purchased
