Basic Fundamentals
Section A – Under this section, you will find the memory based previous year’s questions that were asked in RBI
Grade B, NABARD Grade A, SEBI Grade A, NPS Grade A and PFRDA Exam. This section will enable you to test
your knowledge based on different concepts.
Section B - In this section, you will find the explanation of all the questions.
Note: The aspirants for other exams such as NABARD Grade A, SEBI Grade A, NPS Grade A and PFRDA Exam can
skip RBI Grade B questions as they are of high level and these high-level questions are not asked in these exams

Section B
Explanation
RBI Grade B questions
Question 1- mn≠0
Quantity: I. m=n
A. If quantity I ≥ quantity II
D. If quantity I = quantity II or the relationship cannot be established from the information that is given
E. If quantity I ≤ quantity II
Answer – Option D
Explanation -
mn≠0
𝑚𝑛=1
Question 2- While writing first N natural numbers, I missed one number. What is the number that I missed?
Statement I: The sum of all the natural number which I wrote, is 320.
Statement III: if I had not missed the number then sum would have been 325. RBI Grade B 2021
E. None of these
Answer – Option B
Explanation -
Explanation
n (n + 1)/2– x = 320,
n (n + 1) – 2X = 640
and x = 5
If we take n = 26 then
26 × 27 = 702 = 640 + 2x
we can conclude only the condition that the number I missed was an odd number. To this statement it
we can conclude the sum of all the number without missing any number but we don’t have any
Question 3- If a, b, c and d are positive integers, then find the correct relation between quantity I and II.
Quantity II: (a³ x b³) / (a x b²) = (b³ x d4) / (b x d) RBI Grade B 2021
D. Quantity I ≥ Quantity II
E. Quantity I ≤ Quantity II
Answer – Option C
Email – [email protected], M - 8146207241 7|Page http://www.edutap.co.in
Explanation -
Explanation
(a-b) / (a-a) = ab × c
aa-b = ab × c
aa-2b = c
a3× b = b2× d3
a3 = bd3
I.4-5) Direction: Read the following information carefully and answer the questions based on it.
A sequence of numbers is given to you as below:
18 (A) (B) (C) (D) 124
Where, A = P² - Q
B – A = (P + 1) ² + Q
C – B = (P + 2) ² + Q
D – C = (P + 3) ² + Q
P = HCF of L and M, where L and M are co – primes
Q = Smaller root of K² - 2K – 8 = 0
Question 4- How many numbers are divisible by 3, in the given sequence? RBI Grade B 2021
A. 2
B. 4
C. 3
D.6
E. None of these
Option -C
Calculation
Email – [email protected], M - 8146207241 8|Page http://www.edutap.co.in
Explanation-
P = HCF of L and M, where L and M are co – primes
P = HCF of two co-primes i.e., 1.
Q = smaller root of K² - 2K – 8 = 0
K² - 2K – 8 = 0
K² - 4K+ 2K– 8 = 0
K (K –4) + 2(K – 4) = 0
(K - 4) (K + 2) = 0
K = 4, -2
Q is -2.
A = P² - Q
A = (1)2 – (-2) = 3
B – A = (P + 1) ² + Q
B – 3 = (1 + 1)2 + (-2)
B=4–2+3=5
C – B = (P + 2) ² + Q
C – 5 = (1 + 2)2 + (-2)
C = 9 – 2 + 5 = 12
D – C = (P + 3) ² + Q
D – 12 = (1 + 3)2 + (-2)
D = 16 – 2 + 12
D = 26
Series 18 (A) (B) (C) (D) 124
In 18, 3, 5, 12, 26, 124
only 3 numbers are divisible by 3.
Hence, option C is the correct answer.
Calculation
Q is -2.
A = (1)2 – (-2) = 3
B – A = (P + 1) ² + Q
B – 3 = (1 + 1)2 + (-2)
B=4–2+3=5
C – B = (P + 2) ² + Q
C – 5 = (1 + 2)2 + (-2)
C = 9 – 2 + 5 = 12
D – C = (P + 3) ² + Q
D – 12 = (1 + 3)2 + (-2)
D = 16 – 2 + 12
D = 26
= A² + 3B + 5C – 4D
= 32 + 3(5) + 5(12) – 4(26)
= 9 + 15 + 60 – 104
= -20
Hence, option A is the Correct answer.
I.6-7) Each question below contains a statement followed by Quantity I and Quantity II. You have to study the
information along with the question and compare the value derived from Quantity I and Quantity II, then
answer:
2 𝑎4
Question 6- Quantity I: Value of ‘p’ such that (√𝑎𝑝 ) = √𝑎16 RBI Grade B 2022
Quantity II: 1
C. Quantity I ≥ Quantity II
Email – [email protected], M - 8146207241 10 | P a g e http://www.edutap.co.in
D. Quantity I ≤ Quantity II
Option-B
Calculation
Quantity I:
2 𝑎4
(√𝑎𝑝 ) = √𝑎16
𝑎4
→ 𝑎𝑝 =
𝑎8
1
→ 𝑎 𝑝 = 𝑎4
→ 𝑎𝑝 = 𝑎−4
So, p = -4
Quantity I = p = -4
Quantity II:
Quantity II = 1
𝑎3 − 𝑏3
Question 7- Quantity I: – 3ab RBI Grade B 2022
𝑎−𝑏
1 1
Quantity II: 1 − −
𝑎 𝑏
C. Quantity I ≥ Quantity II
D. Quantity I ≤ Quantity II
Option-A
Calculation
Quantity I:
𝑎3 − 𝑏3
– 3ab
𝑎−𝑏
(8-0.125)/ (1.5) – 3
(7.875)/ (1.5) -3
5.25 -3 = 2.25
Quantity I = 2.25
𝑎3 − 𝑏3
– 3ab
𝑎−𝑏
Since, 𝑎3 − 𝑏 3 = (𝑎 − 𝑏)(𝑎2 + 𝑎𝑏 + 𝑏 2 )
𝑎3 − 𝑏3 (𝑎−𝑏)(𝑎2 +𝑎𝑏+ 𝑏2 )
– 3ab = – 3ab
𝑎−𝑏 𝑎−𝑏
→ (𝑎2 + 𝑎𝑏 + 𝑏 2 ) – 3ab
→ 𝑎2 − 2𝑎𝑏 + 𝑏 2
→ (𝑎 − 𝑏)2
Since, 1 > b
1
So, 1 < 𝑏
1 1
1- 2 - 0.5
1-0.5 -2
-1.5
1 1
i.e., 1 − − <0
𝑎 𝑏
Question 8- A natural number, N, is divisible by at most two distinct divisors of 12. What will the HCF of all
possible values of N be? RBI Grade B 2023
A. 2
B. 1
C. 0
D. 3
E. 4
Answer – Option B
Explanation -
N can be 1 also.
So, possible values of N can be 1, 2a, and 3b where a and b are natural numbers.
