Mimeo Digital – User Guide

Account Creation:

The platform that is being utilized for content view is called the Mimeo Digital Library & has the
following URLs. They are customized specifically for BSI.

1. Returning Users: https://bsi.mimeo.digital

2. Mimeo’s default standard digital library URL is https://mimeo.digital/login.

Logging In:

Any logins should be done by visiting https://bsi.mimeo.digital & utilizing user login credentials. For first
time users, enrollment is done by going to that link and hitting “sign up for an account”

Browsers:

For optimum functionality, students should use the most up to date version of whichever browser they
are utilizing. This platform functions on a variety of browsers (Chrome, Firefox, IE, and Safari being the
most popular). However depending upon which browser a student is using, the buttons within the
platform may appear in slightly different locations from browser to browser.

App Access

Each Mimeo Digital library can be accessed from any device (PC, tablet, or smartphone) in both a
browser & via the Mimeo Digital app.

You can download this app via the Apple App Store, Google Play Store, Amazon App Store for Android or
Windows App Store.

Once downloaded, you will login or create a new account via the steps mentioned above. Inside you will
notice that the colors & logo match the BSI brand.

Tablets:

You can access https://bsi.mimeo.digital via any tablet. This being said, the UI (user interface) scales
down to the size of the screen on the device. So, the buttons on the screen will move accordingly. Prior
to utilizing a tablet or device in class, be sure to do a test with your own devices so that you can speak to
the correct location of these buttons.

Offline Access to Content

If offline access is enabled for the contents, then students can have access to do so on any device via the
browser or app.

Students will receive a pop up when content is redeemed which asks if they would like to enable offline
access. We recommend doing so in the vent there are connectivity issues during class. They’ll also have
the option to enable/disable individual pieces of content from the file’s settings. The student must
select these options while still connected to Wi-Fi.

This must be done on the device in which they wish to view the content in an offline fashion. For
example if Sally wants to view this document offline from her iPad & her laptop, she must make this
selection twice – once when logged on with her laptop & one when logged in with her PC.

This selection can also be made for all files in the library. Simply click the Cloud icon in the top
right corner. All files with offline access enabled will have a grey triangle with a check mark appear at
the bottom right hand corner of the icon. When all required documents are enabled for offline access,
simply switch to the “Device” version of your library, via the controls at the top center of the screen.
File Download:

Upon clicking the file name or thumbnail, the piece of content that the student is accessing will open in
what is called our Secure Reader.

Typically content is locked down preventing redistribution. But if file download is turned on for the
document, the student may save it locally to their device. In order to do so, they simply go to each file’s
settings & select “Download PDF”.

Once clicked, a download popup will appear. Click “ok” to confirm the download.
From there, the item will begin downloading at the bottom of the browser.

Please do be aware that note taking, underlining, & highlighting tools are only be available within this
Secure Reader.

Please note that copies of the standards CANNOT be downloaded, printed, or altered in any way.

Archiving Content

The last option you will encounter within each file’s settings is the “archive” button. This will allow the
student to remove the content from view of their general library and put it into the archive folder.

In order to access this content later, the student can go to their content folder via the “archive” button
on their left hand navigation.

To unarchive it, the student should simply click into the file’s settings and click “Un-archive“.
Note Taking:

All of the annotation tools live at the top bar of the secure reader. Each has an icon to denote its title. To
reveal what each does, simply hover your cursor over the icon. In order to reveal more tools simply click
the down arrow next to the contextual search bar.

Annotations will be saved automatically. Placement in indicated in the right panel which can be
collapsed. Annotations will remain intact and can be accessed via any device the user logs into.

There are two different types of notes, Free Text vs. Comment Note:

● Free Text allows students to annotate directly onto the document. Imagine as “writing in the
margins”. This type of note takes up space on the document & is seen at all times.
● Comments are detonated by a word bubble. This allows students to place a note on a piece of
content without taking up space or covering any other text. Meaning that this type of note can
be minimized if the student does not want to see it. When the do want to see the note, they
simply click it open.

The placement of each note is entirely controlled by the student, as is the color of each highlight &
underline that they make. Students can also attached a comment note to each highlight or underline. A
text box will appear after they take either one of these actions allowing them space to take the note.

Contextual Search

There is a contextual search option within each file’s secure reader. It is denoted via the hourglass icon
on the left hand navigation. Once clicked a viewer can enter any word or phrase that exists throughout
the document.

Each result is clickable and will jump the viewer to the result’s location. The word or phrase will appear
highlighted on that page.

Content Viewing Lag:

We understand that there may be lag periods in which students may not be engaging with content
(breaks, lunch, longer lectures, etc.). If a student has not touched their content for 30 minutes, a pop up
will appear that shows the following message:
By clicking “yes”, the student is telling the system to keep the document open for more time. Until “yes”
is clicked, this message will continue to appear on the screen.

User Settings & Logging Out

From the “Settings” tab on the left hand navigation users can change their credentials or avatar,
language, & log out.

The “Sign Out” button will be the dark colored button at the bottom of the screen.

You are now prepared to inform your audience members of their access. Below are two generic
templates which can be edited as you see fit. Need more resources? Click HERE to visit Mimeo Digital
