1. INTRODUCTION

1.1 DESCRIPTION

This document explains how to install and use the Genset Workbench application.
The instructions are illustrated with screen shots from the programme.
Genset Workbench allows you to manage the controllers on HIMOINSA gensets.

1.2 REQUIREMENTS

Genset WorkbenchH requires the following connection ports, software and

hardware:
1. Connection requirements: to connect the GENSET WORKBENCH to the genset’s
communication bus you will need at least one of the following communication
ports: CCUSB, CCLAN, or CCRS232. To connect the GENSET WORKBENCH using
the HGMANAGER fleet manager, you will need at least one of the following
communication ports CCLAN-HG or CCRS232-HG.
No CAN communication port is needed if the genset control unit is equipped with
a USB port.
2. Software requirements: the PC where the software is to be installed must be
running Microsoft Windows XP SP3 or higher. Microsoft Framework .Net 3.5 must
also be installed.
3. Hardware requirements: the minimum hardware requirements to guarantee
that the software will work correctly on your PC are:
•• 2 GB of RAM.
•• DUAL CORE 2 GHz processor.

GENSET WORKBENCH | PAG. 3

2. INSTALLATION
To install Genset Workbench, contact HIMOINSA to request the installer. When
you receive the installer, proceed as follows:
1. Run the setup.exe.
2. Click on Next in the installation window.

3. Click on Install in the installation window.

4. Click on Finish in the installation window.

GENSET WORKBENCH | PAG. 4

5. At the end of the installation process, the installer will create a desktop short
cut.
6. When you open the programme for the first time you must select your language
of choice and click on OK.

GENSET WORKBENCH | PAG. 5

3. CONNECTING TO THE UNIT
Genset Workbench can communicate with devices using two communication
protocols:
1. USB: at start-up, the programme will automatically recognise any device
connected via USB.
2. CAN: to communicate with the control unit, connection with the unit can be
established via the following CAN communication ports:
•• CCUSB: at start-up, the programme will automatically recognise any
CAN device connected via USB.
•• CCLAN: if at start-up the programme does not recognise any devices
connected via the USB port of the PC, the following connection
configuration window will appear. In this window, select TCP as the
Connection method. Fill in the required fields (IP, Port and Password)
and click on OK.

GENSET WORKBENCH | PAG. 6

•• CCRS232: if at start-up the programme does not recognise any
devices connected via the USB port of the PC, the following
connection configuration window will appear. In this window, select
Modem as the Connection method and click on OK.

The following screen shot shows the modem configuration window. Fill
in the required fields (Number, Password, Port and PIN) and click on
Dial.

•• CCLAN HG and CCRS232 HG: The application can also run under the
HGManager fleet manager. In this case, all the devices connected to
the communication bus of the genset to which connection has been
established from the HGManager fleet manager will be displayed.

NOTE
More information about connecting to generators can be found in the
communication port user manuals or in the HGManager user manual.

5.1 CONFIGURATION

The Configuring function allows users to read and write (depending on

permissions) different settings in each device.

5.1.1 SETTINGS STATUS

Each setting is assigned one of the following statuses, differentiated by the

colour of the setting value field:

Normal: the setting has been read

correctly.
Read only: the setting cannot be overwrit-
ten for one of the following reasons: it is
a read-only setting, or the user does not
have the required permissions.
Changed: the setting has been changed
by the user but has not been written in 2
the device.
Reading error: an error has occurred
when reading the setting.

5.1.2 READ SETTINGS

The settings in a section of a device can be read under the following

circumstances:
1. Content tree selection. When the section selected in a content tree is changed,
all the settings from that section are read.

of the following sections to be read:
•• Selected section: the settings in the selected section are updated.
•• Unread sections: the settings in unread sections are read.
•• Changed sections: all the settings of a section are read if changes
have been made to any of the settings, but have not yet been written
to the device.

5.1.3 SET SETTINGS

The settings of a device can be configured under the following circumstances:

1. Click on Set settings: clicking on Set settings will enter the following parameters:
•• Any changed settings that have not yet been written to the device (in
both the selected section and in any other section not selected). 5.1.5 IMPORT A CONFIGURATION FILE
The programme displays a confirmation message if you change a function or
close the programme before changes made to a setting have been written to the You can also import the configuration settings in a configuration file (.gwc or .ini
device. format) to a device by clicking on Import settings from file.
Choose the configuration file you want to import and click on Open. There are 2
configuration file formats available:
•• .ini: for configuration files generated using the old CE6 Configuration
version of the generator configuration software.
•• .gwc: for configuration files generated using Genset Workbench.

5.1.4 EXPORT SETTINGS TO FILE

Click on Export settings to file to export the configuration settings for a device to
a configuration file (.gwc format). The following is the serial number window,
where you must enter the Serial number of the device, and click OK.
