REAPER

Addendum (handy stuff, often used commands shortcuts)

(will be updated during the course) (by Oliver Stotz)

EDITING:
F2:
opens a floating window with the selected clip‘s „Item Properties.
Right-Click the title bar and select „Dock Item Properties window in Docker“to have
this window available permanently in the DOCKER area (next to the Mixer).
Remember to click „apply“ after changing settings !

KEYBOARD or MIDI Controller SHORTCUTS:

?:
opens a window containing all possible commands in Reaper (called „Actions“),
allowing you to map keyboard shortcuts or Midi commands to this Action.

To find a specific „Action“, type the name or parts of it into the „Filter“ field:
You can then fine-tune your search by sorting the results‘ categories.

(For example if you want to see all commands concerning markers, type „marker“ into the
filter, and then click the „shortcut“ category to check, what keyboard shortcuts are available
that deal with markers)

To apply a keyboard shortcut:

1.) Select the desired Action

2.) Click „Add...“in the bottom-left area of the window
3.) Press your desired key (or „modifier + key“)
MARKERS:

Markers are useful to keep your project organized but also to jump from one section
to another. Tempo Markers change the overall tempo of your project.

Create new Marker M

Create new Tempo Marker Shift +c
Create Region from Selection Shift +r
Jump to previous Marker [ (or apply a custom key)
Jump to next Marker ] (or apply a custom key)
Insert Stretch Marker Shift +w

Right-Click on a Marker to see/change its Properties (Name, Tempo etc.)

TIMING:

Tempo change (with Tempo Markers) is usually done immediately.

A gradual change of tempo from one Tempo marker to the next can be selected in the
Tempo marker‘s Properties:
Right-Click or Double-Click on the Marker, click „gradually transition tempo till next
marker“

Keep in mind that Items will react differently to tempo changes according to their
„Item Timebase“ settings:

Time: Audio item will keep it's position and length in seconds.
Changes in tempo won't change the playback rate.

Beats (position, length, rate): Audio item will keep it's position and length in beats.
If the tempo is changed slower, audio item will play back slower and vice versa.

Beats (position only): Audio item will keep it's starting position in beats and length in
seconds. Changes in tempo won't change the playback rate.

Beats (auto stretch at tempo changes): Like „Beats (position, length, rate)“, but also
inserts Stretch markers on each tempo change, so that tempo changes within Item
range are also reflected.

TRANSPOSITION:

Transposition (or „pitch“) is set per Item, but there are also useful shortcuts
Lower item‘s pitch in semitones (keep length) Shift + 9
Raise item‘s pitch in semitones (keep length) Shift + 0
Lower item‘s playback rate in semitones (change pitch AND length) Shift + 5
Raise item‘s playback rate in semitones (change pitch AND length) Shift + 6

Combinations of both mehtods will also work !

Note: To change the length of an Item in semitones but not the pitch, unclick
„preserve pitch when changing rate“ in its properties after doing Shift + 5 or Shift + 6
