NARRATIVE

On March 18th, 2024, BSN Group H, under the supervision of Clinical Instructor Maam Marilyn
Saldivar, commenced a three-day clinical deployment at the Aparri Rural Health Unit. Led by
Team Leader Steven Kyle Alameda Palapuz in collaboration with Team Leader Kria Lazza of
Group G, the deployment provided students with valuable practical experience in various aspects
of primary healthcare.

The first day was dedicated to familiarization with the Outpatient Department (OPD) operations.
Students actively participated in patient care by recording new patient data, monitoring returning
patients' progress, and assisting with wound cleaning and vital sign measurement. Notably,
Steven Kyle Alameda Palapuz further honed his clinical skills by administering Antitetanus
serum and performing a skin test on a patient. The students also had the opportunity to observe
how to use an electrocardiogram.

The second day saw the group transition to a field setting in Paddaya. They played a crucial role
in promoting public health by providing immunizations to infants, ensuring protection against
preventable childhood diseases. Additionally, they engaged in patient education regarding family
planning methods, promoting responsible parenthood within the community. Due to the
approaching academic examinations, the deployment concluded earlier than planned.

While the third day's activities were cancelled to allow for focused exam preparation, the
deployment proved to be a valuable learning experience for BSN Group H. The hands-on
experience in vaccination and immunization, coupled with the opportunity to witness the
dedication of healthcare professionals in a rural setting, provided crucial insights into primary
healthcare practices. The warm hospitality of the patients and the collaborative spirit within the
group further enriched this professional development opportunity.
