ADDING AND SUBTRACTING

DECIMALS AND MIXED

DECIMALS
for Mathematics Grade 6
Quarter 1/Week 3
FOREWORD

This Self-Learning Kit will serve as a guide in adding and

subtracting decimals and mixed decimals through ten
thousandths without or with regrouping. It will be your aid as
you learn new ideas and enrich your existing knowledge about
mathematical concepts.

In this learning kit, the pupils will also gain knowledge in

solving routine and non-routine problems involving addition
and subtraction of decimals and mixed decimals through ten
thousandths without or with regrouping using appropriate
problem solving strategies.

The following are the special and unique features of the Self-
Learning Kit:

A. What Happened The pupils are ask to answer activities

that will allow them to apply what they have learned prior
to the discussion of the learning competency/ies.

B. What You Need To Know This is the part where the learning
competency/ies is/are being discussed.

C. What Have I Learned It aims to check the pupils

understanding of the learning competency in adding and
subtracting decimals and mixed decimals through ten
thousandths without or with regrouping.

Math is fun. We hope that this Self-Learning Kit will help our
dear pupils to enhance their mathematical skills that would
soon be applied in their everyday lives.

MATHiscovery #1

Adding Decimals and Mixed Decimals through ten thousandths

Learnie joined a dance presentation for the “Buwan ng Wika”.

She bought a kimona costing ₱69.75 and a floral skirt for ₱85.25
for her costume. How much did she spend?

Arrange the digits in columns and align the

decimal points.
Insert zeros “0” in empty decimal places so that
all of the numbers have the same number of
decimal places
₱69.75
+ ₱85.25 Add starting from the right to the left the same
₱155.00 as adding whole numbers.
Place the decimal point between the digits
vertically aligned to all the addends

MATHiscovery #2

Subtracting Decimals and Mixed Decimals through ten thousandths

On her birthday, Nancy received ₱150.00 from her grandmother.

How much more does she need if she wants to buy a pair of shoes
worth ₱250.75?

Arrange the digits in columns and align the

decimal points.
Insert zeros “0” in empty decimal places so that
all of the numbers have the same number of
decimal places
₱250.75 Subtract starting from the right to the left the
- ₱150.00 same as subtracting whole numbers.
₱100.75 Place the decimal point between the digits
vertically aligned to all the subtrahends and
minuends.

MATHiscovery #3

Zero “0” as Place Holder

Insert zeros “0” in empty decimal place value so that all the numbers
have the same number of decimal places.
