Paderi war is a war waged between 1803 - 1837 in West Sumatra, Indonesia.
The Paderis, or the Muslims wants to impose Syariah Law in West Sumatra but denied by
the Adat, or the people who still uphold the tradition. The Paderis want to ban the un-islamic
tradition including cockfighting and gambling.
Around 1820s, the Adat, who was cornered by the Paderis, sought allegiance with the
Dutch colonial, which also begin to enter the Sumatra region.
In 1833, the Padris and Adat begin to reconcile and fight the Dutch together. Guerrilla
tactic is used against the Dutch. This war is lead by Tuanku Imam Bonjol. He had a very strong
fortress uphill that was very difficult for the Dutch to breach. The Dutch tried to take over the
fort from 1835 to 1837. On their last attack, they manage to breach the fort and forced Tuanku
Imam Bonjol to fled.
October 1837, the Dutch invited Tuanku Imam Bonjol for a negotiation. But this is a trick
and he was arrested when he attended the negotiation. However, the arrest did not stop the war.
Not until the last fortress are compromised in 1838. (https://www.quora.com/What-do-you-

Silkworms live for only two or three days after laying eggs. About 36,000 to 50,000 eggs are laid,
and these are carefully stored at the silkworm farm until they are ready to hatch. The eggs hatch into
caterpillars, which feed on mulberry leaves. Soon, the caterpillars are ready to spin their cocoons.
Not all caterpillars can spin silk cocoons. Only the caterpillars of a silkworm moth known as
‘Bombyx mari’ can do such spinning. This caterpillar has special glands which secrete liquid silk
through its lower lip. The liquid produced later hardens to form tine strands. The caterpillar makes
its cocoons using these strands. The threads on the outside of the cocoon are rough, while those
inside are soft and smooth. Some fully spun cocoons are heated. This kills the pupa inside. The
cocoons are then put into hot water to loosen the fine threads. Finally, these threads are reeled off the
cocoons. The length of unbroken thread produced by a single cocoon measures about one-and-a-half

Padang, West Sumatra (Sat, February 26, 2022)
Rescue teams in West Sumatra were searching on Saturday for six people still missing after a
strong earthquake rocked the island a day earlier, killing at least eight people and injuring dozens, an
official said. The 6.2-magnitude quake hit the island's north at a depth of 12 kilometres (7.5 miles)
minutes after a less violent tremor Friday morning, according to the United States Geological Survey
(USGS), displacing thousands. It damaged hundreds of homes and buildings including mosques,
schools and banks, forcing terrified residents to evacuate and shuttle loved ones to safety in
temporary shelters.
"At the moment the search is ongoing for six people we predict have been buried by a
7
landslide," said Abdul Muhari, spokesman of Indonesia's National Disaster Mitigation Agency
(BNPB), in a statement Saturday. At least 86 people were injured in the quake, with 10 suffering
serious injuries, according to the BNPB. More than 6,000 people have been evacuated in Sumatra's
West Pasaman and Pasaman city, where rescue workers were using heavy equipment to search for
survivors in the rubble of buildings, the agency said. Indonesian meteorological agency
BMKG warned people to stay away from slopes over fears of landslides at the peak of the rainy
season.
Authorities in West Pasaman have declared a two-week state of emergency while the search
and relief efforts continue. "People affected by the quake urgently need tarpaulin, tents, instant food,
clean water and family supplies," Muhari said. Images shared with AFP from Pasaman city, near the
quake's epicentre, showed partially collapsed houses with bricks lying on the ground and holes in the
walls. The town mayor's residence also suffered damage, with shattered glass all over the floor,
according to BNPB head Suharyanto.
The tremors were felt as far away as Malaysia and Singapore. Indonesia sits on the Pacific
"Ring of Fire", causing it to experience frequent earthquakes. In 2004, a 9.1-magnitude quake struck
the coast of Sumatra and triggered a tsunami that killed 220,000 people throughout the region,
including about 170,000 in Indonesia.
