INTRODUCTION

Most of the people nowadays especially the elders plant some vegetables at their

homes like for example is the eggplants. That’s why the researchers planned to do an

investigation in order to find out what will happen to the plant if it was separated into

three groups like the organic, inorganic or controlled.

Eggplant is one of the most important vegetables, especially for the farmers that

work or make a living by planting and selling what they harvested to the market. Most of

the farmers are using fertilizers that is applied to soils or to plant tissues to supply

nutrient essential to the growth of plants to make sure that the plants that they are going

to sell would be worthy for the buyers to buy.

Determine how does different fertilizers affects the growth and development of a

plant. Identify the difference between the eggplant which has organic and inorganic

fertilizer and the one without fertilizer.

The aim of this study is to compare the result of using inorganic and organic

fertilizer in an eggplant.

The importance of this study is to identify what are the effects of organic and

inorganic fertilizer in eggplant in terms of its growth, height and number of leaves

Using inorganic fertilizer is more difficult to use because of the substances it contains

that can melt or destroy the roots of the plant that is resulting for the eggplant

to die if it is not distributed properly in the soil. While using organic fertilizer is easier

because of its natural substance that doesn't harm the plant.

There is no significant relationship between the effects of different fertilizers in

the growth and development of the plant.

1
There is no significant difference between the plants with fertilizer and the one

without fertilizer.

Erisman et al. (2008) pointed out that Organic and inorganic fertilizers are

important for plant growth. Both fertilizers provide plants with the nutrients needed for

best performance. Organic fertilizers have been used for many centuries whereas

chemically synthesized inorganic fertilizers were only widely developed during the

industrial revolution. Inorganic fertilizer has importantly supported global population

growth, it has been calculated that almost half the people on the earth are currently fed

as a result of artificial nitrogen fertilizer use.

Conforming to Homes Guide, inorganic fertilizers are also related to as chemical

or synthetic fertilizer because their plant-providing nourishments have been synthesized

or manufactured in a laboratory or refinery. Until 100 years ago, fertilizers were all

organic because the Science and Chemistry has not yet developed the inorganic

fertilizer. However, when people learned that plants develop well using inorganic

nutrients, and these fertilizers offer gardeners several advantages and disadvantages.

According to Health Fitness Revolution, Draped in a gorgeous, grape-tinted skin,

this misunderstood vegetable (eggplant) was previously rumored to have no

nutritious merit. Research has shown time and time again that this perception couldn’t

be further from the truth. From baba ghanoush to ratatouille, there are various vessels

of indulgence for this vibrant veggie! But these “garden eggs” must be baked or grilled

to cultivate the most nutrients possible, and should not be eaten raw.

According to Food and Agriculture Organization of The United Nations, Four

eggplant (solanum melongena L.) cultivars were grown in 2007 spring cropping season

at Hanoi University of Agriculture to investigate their response to organic fertilizer

(containing 0.37% N, 0.95% P and 1.8% K) in comparison with reduced organic

fertilization and traditional practice of fertilizer application (completely inorganic) in terms

of growth and fruit yield and quality traits.

Organic fertilizer was obtained from microbial composting of organic agricultural

and domestic wastes. It was found that organic fertilizer application for eggplant

appeared to be superior to chemical fertilizers in terms of vegetative growth, fruit yield

and quality attributes.

Organic fertilizer slightly shortened the days from planting to flowering and

improved the yield components and total marketable fruit yield in most of the cultivars

investigated. Fruit dry matter content was higher and the taste better in organic

treatment in all cultivars, particularly of local cultivar. Organic fertilizer can be

recommended as full substitute for chemical fertilizers in eggplant production.

Based on Research Gate, cowdung and poultry manures are the two suitable

manures, but it is not possible to meet the nutritional requirements from the organic

sources only. The potentialities of organic source is very limited to afford higher crop

production due to slow release of plant nutrients from organic matter. Only one fifth to

half of the nutrient supplied from manure was recovered and reminder was released any

by 24 hours per annum (Miah, 1994).

This may be concern for fertility maintenance but is obviously a barrier for higher

plant nutrition uptake. To overcome this problem application of organic manures in

combination with inorganic fertilizers, called integrated

nutrient management, can play important role in brinjal cultivation. Integrated nutrient

use has assumed great significance in vegetable production.

METHODOLOGY

The materials needed by the researchers are the following: three twenty five

kilograms (25kgs) sacks that will serve as the pot for the plant, loam soil where the

seedling will be placed, three eggplant seedlings, five hundred mililiter (500ml) of bottled

water for watering, fifteen grams (15g) of both organic and inorganic fertilizers. A ruler

and a spring balance is also needed to measure the height of the plant and the amount

of fertilizer to use.

To make the project, all materials mentioned we’re collected. The researchers put

seven kilograms (7kgs) of loam soil in each twenty-five kilogram sacks apnd we’re

labelled as “organic”, “inorganic”, and “controlled”. The researchers planted the seedling

separately and watered it for the roots to stick to the soil.

Every other week, different kinds of fertilizers we’re applied on their designated

sacks. Every Friday, the researchers measured the height of the plants and counted the

number of leaves to gather all the data and to determine the changes in each plant. The

eggplant seedling was observed daily and watered with five hundred mililiter (500ml) of

water every other day.

RESULTS AND DISCUSSION

The results of the study showed the different effects of carabao manure; which is

the organic fertilizer and the urea;which is the inorganic fertilizer to the growth of the

eggplant

Table 1: Height of the Plants in 5 Weeks

Week 1 Week 2 Week 3 Week 4 Week 5

ORGANIC 15cm 24cm 24.2cm 25cm 27cm

INORGANIC 14cm 22cm 22.3cm 21cm 21.5cm

CONTROLED 14cm 19cm 19.1cm 21cm 24cm

The table 1 shows that the organic (Carabao Manure) is faster to grow compared

to the inorganic and controlled. The table also shows that carabao manure has a better

effect in the growth of the eggplant.

5
Table 2: Number of Leaves in the Plants in 5 weeks

Week 1 Week 2 Week 3 Week 4 Week 5

ORGANIC 3 5 5 6 5

INORGANIC 3 6 6 6 4

CONTROLED 3 4 4 5 5

Table 2 shows that organic had more leaves compared to urea and controlled. The

table also shows that carabao manure has a better effect in the growth of the eggplant.

6
CONCLUSION AND RECOMMENDATION

The researchers concluded that this study will help the people; especially the farmers

to gain more benefits and advantages in terms of planting by using fertilizers. It will also

help the people and the farmers on what fertilizers are the most useful in plant growth

and development.

Therefore, this comparative study had proved that carabao manure is more effective

in terms of height and number of leaves. And also you can find these in farms. Carabao

manure is also inexpensive and you can have it for free; surely an advantage for a

gardener or a farmer. The researchers also recommend that the plant shouldn’t be

exposed in direct sunlight and rainfall.
