xercise 1
Create a new Iile. Create the Iollowing table and Iollow the steps to Iormat it:

1. &sing the alignment buttons on the toolbar, set the justiIication Ior the
second column to centre justiIied.
2. Widen the columns to display all oI the inIormation.
3. Place a double-line border around the Iirst row.
4. Add a blank line beIore the table by placing the cursor in Iront oI "Name"
and hit the nter key twice on your keyboard. Type the title "Phone List".
5. Save the Iile to your pen drive and name it PHONE.

1. nsert a new column beIore Phone Number.
2. n the new column, type the column heading Amount Due. Type in the
Iigures below, making sure that the amount due column is aligned to the right
and that the column is wide enough to hold a total.
3. Add a Total line (Hint: place cursor in last cell and press Tab).
4. &se the S&M Iormula to add the column oI numbers.
5. Add shading to just the last row.

COLUMNS
HOW COLUMNS WORK
Word allows you to create between 1 and 45 columns. Word also allows you to
insert section breaks to make it easier to insert either a picture or headline that is
the width oI the page.
You can apply Iormatting to text in columns just as you would to any other
Word text. Word also allows you to make columns diIIerent widths, so that you
could have one wide column and another more narrow.
Note: Keep in mind that you can create
columns a) BOR entering the text
they will contain, as well as b) apply them
ATR YO& have entered a block oI
text.
CREATE COLUMNS
1. On the Page Layout Tab
2. Choose Page Setup then Columns
3. Then more Columns
4. Choose the number oI columns desired
5. I you want the columns to start Irom this point Iorward, in the Apply To:
box, choose This point Iorward. I you don`t, the entire document will be
Iormatted in columns.
ADDING LINES BETWEEN COLUMNS
&se the Columns dialog box iI you would like to place a line between your
columns. There is only one line style.
1. On the Page Layout Tab

Exercise 4. Adding Calculations to a Table
1)
n your list oI students we will add a Iormula to calculate their total mark. Click
in the %otal column next to the Iirst student (Connery, S).
2)
rom the Table Tools Layout tab click the ormula icon (on the end oI the
ribbon). We will need to create a Iormula that adds together this student`s year
mark and exam mark which in the table are cells B2 and C2.
Word will Iill in the Iormula box with SUM(LEF%). This Iormula will add all
the cells to the leIt oI the current one together. n this case a Iormula like this
would give us the answer we want but in some cases the Sum Iunction might not
be suitable.
or the purposes oI showing you the regular way oI doing it, we`ll do it without
the Sum Iunction.
